ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
These two roles are located in the Office of Internal Audit in Headquarters (HQ) in Rome, Italy. The professional will work as team members under the supervision of the Director, Office of Internal Audit or the designate. Frequent travel to WFP Field Operations, mainly to developing countries, is required.
THE ROLE
To contribute to and/or undertake audit assignments to assess the soundness, adequacy and application of internal management and financial controls.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):
- Contribute to audit assignments in multi-disciplinary audit teams in accordance with internal procedures and auditing standards.
- Contribute to the implementation of the audit programmes, draft audit observations and support audit teams with preparation of audit papers and analysis of various documents and information, or interviews, related to audit assignments to ensure completeness and adequacy of supporting documentation and statements made in the audit report.
- Prepare accurate working papers for review by the team leader.
- Contribute to the evaluation of risk management and internal control systems of WFP offices, and further analysis as assigned by the supervisor.
- Follow up on implementation of audit recommendations, and contribute to initial evaluation of responses and actions taken by managers of the audited offices.
- Participate in professional practice and innovation activities & perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
- Advanced University degree in Audit, Business and Public Administration, Finance, Accounting or other related field, or First University degree with additional professional experience.
- Completed certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Chartered Accountant (CCA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or equivalent is required (or proven internal audit experience).
Experience: Minimum three of relevant experience in contributing and/or undertaking audits in various organizations that use modern auditing techniques including auditing automated financial and management information systems, management and operational areas.
Language:
- Fluency (level C) in English language.
- Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language).

- Knowledge of auditing standards, methodologies and practices including applicable financial rules and procedures.
- Demonstrated practical use of auditing techniques including familiarity with electronic sources and databases.
- Ability to collect information, systemize, analyze and draw conclusions.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- These two positions are International Professional positions and are open to all nationalities.
- Mobility is and continues to be a core contractual requirement in WFP. These positions are however classified as “non-rotational” which means the incumbents shall not be subject to the regular reassignment process unless the positions are reclassified as rotational. The selected candidates will be employed on a fixed-term contract with a probationary period of one year. These positions are open to both internal and external candidates.
- WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in line with ICSC standards (http://icsc.un.org) including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, visa, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days’ annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, a pension plan, and medical insurance.
- The selected candidates will be required to relocate to Rome, Italy to take up this assignment.
