Specifically, FAO Country Offices\:
• advocate, inform and support policies and investments in the areas of FAO’s mandate.
• provide technical assistance and deliver core services.
• assist and catalyse partnership and resource mobilization activities to support agrifood systems transformation.
• position FAO as the specialized/authoritative technical agency in food and agriculture and agrifood systems transformation.
• ensure risk-smart and accountable operations and management.
The available position is based in Dolakha District, Baiteshor Rural Municipality, and will play a crucial role in supporting the health, well-being, and productivity of livestock populations, contributing to the sustainability of agricultural operations.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Nepal, the direct supervision of the Project Team Leader with technical guidance of Cluster Livestock Value Chain Specialist and in coordination with Livestock Production Specialist, the Livestock Technician will perform the following tasks
Technical Focus
The Livestock Technician will focus on a range of responsibilities related to the care, management, and health of livestock by understanding the animal behavior principles to safely and effectively handle techniques and restraint methods for various sustainable livestock production.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Assist PCU for formation/ identification of new livestock producer groups for the implementation of dairy, goat and poultry promotion interventions,
• Support PCUs to conduct group level orientation/meeting to sensitize on livestock related activities of the project as per the guidance from PCU,
• Facilitate groups formation and registration process in concerned municipalities; and provide group strengthening support,
• Facilitate producer groups in developing proposals/business plan for accessing matching grant support from the project,
• Mobilize livestock producer groups for demonstration, record keeping at goat multiplier herds, functioning of AI units and livestock productivity improvement related training and other activities as per approved annual work plan of PCU and FAO-TA,
• Prepare and submit trimester and monthly work plan and monthly progress report as per the format developed by the project,
• Identify demonstrations sites, coordinate with PCUs for the timely distribution of quality inputs to producer groups,
• Monitor, supervise and prepare monthly progress reports on the project related activities.
• Assist PCU for timely supply of forage seeds/saplings for both demonstration as well as livestock promotion programs,
• Provide technical services to members of livestock producer groups on preventive and curative animal health care measures, application of biosecurity measures, exchange of breeding bucks for prevention of inbreeding, low cost feed formulation and adoption of improved technologies/ husbandry practices etc.,
• Assist PCU for the distribution of breeding bucks from goat multiplier herds,
• Support livestock producer groups to prepare and submit business plan for accessing matching grants from the project,
• Assist PCUs for mobilizing multi-stakeholder dialogue platform and productive alliances for promoting market linkages,
• Assist PCU for the establishment of livestock related processing infrastructure such as milk chilling/ processing unit under project support,
• Collect and report field level data required for PMIS to cluster-based Livestock Value Chain Specialist on monthly basis,
• Implementing awareness raising activities on environment and social issues and safeguard aspects and collect information as per project requirement,
• Assist in ESMF compliance monitoring and reporting,
• Support PCU for beneficiary identification, group formation and mobilization in new RMs for the implementation of FANSEP II.
• Undertake other project related tasks as assigned by PCU chief, PCU staffs and FAO TA-Team
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• High School Diploma/Technical Diploma (equivalent to SLC/TSLC) in Animal Science relevant with JTA.
• At least two years of working experience in animal health and production management of the project’s activities
• Working knowledge of English and Nepali
• National of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

Technical/Functional Skills
• Proficiency in animal husbandry and their management, and skilled in feeding, watering, and sheltering animals, as well as monitoring their health and well-being.
• Knowledge of basic veterinary procedures like administering vaccinations, deworming, and basic medical treatments for livestock ailments.
• Ability to recognize signs of illness on distress in animals and provide appropriate care.
• Ability to operate and maintain livestock equipment and machinery.
• Good knowledge of the organizational structure
Selection Criteria
• Strong problems solving skills to troubleshoot issues related to animal health, behaviour and implement appropriate solutions.
• Good knowledge of computer operation of the MS Office applications, Internet and office technology equipment
• Extent of technical and practical experience on the day-to-day operational activities of the project or programmes.
• Communication, writing and presentation skills in English and Nepali.
• Ability to work with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
• Prior work experience with UN agencies, development partners, banks, and government of Nepal.
• High degree of team ethics, well-organized, result focused and dynamic personality
