About the job

The Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of staff, visitors, goods, and materials, while ensuring compliance with DRC policies, traffic laws, and security procedures. The role is essential in supporting staff mobility and timely delivery of assistance in a challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport staff, visitors, and goods to assigned destinations.
  • Follow traffic laws, DRC vehicle SOPs, and safety/security protocols.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks, routine maintenance, and keep logbooks updated.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness, documentation, and readiness for field trips.
  • Ensure constant radio communication and report incidents or route changes.
  • Support logistics with errands and other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Minimum 3 years’ professional driving experience (preferably with NGOs/UN).
  • Valid South Sudanese driving license (Class B or above).
  • Strong 4x4/off-road driving skills and knowledge of local roads.
  • Basic English and fluency in local languages (Dinka, Arabic).
  • Basic vehicle mechanics and ability to do minor repairs.

Desirable:

  • Training in defensive driving, first aid, or mechanics.
  • Humanitarian/conflict-area experience.
  • Knowledge of HF/VHF radio use.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to work under pressure.

Education:

  • Secondary or primary certificate.
  • Mechanical background preferred.
