DRC Uganda is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as an Accountant.
The role is conditional upon funding being secured for the project
The overall purpose of the role:
The Accountant will support the financial management of activities under the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project in the assigned refugee settlement, ensuring that all project funds are used, recorded and reported in full compliance with World Bank requirements, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries guidelines, and DRC financial procedures. The role will oversee day to day financial transactions, maintain accurate financial records, support budget monitoring, ensure proper documentation of expenditures linked to project deliverables, and contribute to timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting as required under the project.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Maintain accurate and up to date financial records for all Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project expenditures in the assigned settlement, ensuring full compliance with World Bank financial management standards.

Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports aligned with the project’s reporting requirements, in coordination with the Project Manager and Finance Manager.

Support preparation of activity based budgets and monitor expenditure against approved workplans.

Ensure that all payments are properly authorised, documented and recorded, with supporting evidence linked to project outputs and deliverables.

Support tracking and verification of expenditures for inputs distribution, training activities, demonstration plots, sustainable land management interventions, grievance redress structures, and all implementation costs.

Maintain orderly and auditable filing systems for vouchers, receipts, procurement documentation and financial reports.

Support external and internal audits, including Data Quality Assessments and financial verification missions.

Ensure compliance with financial controls, segregation of duties, donor regulations and DRC operational procedures.

Collaborate with the Project Manager and monitoring staff to verify financial documentation linked to technical achievements and indicator reporting.

Assist in preparing financial forecasts and cash requests.

Ensure accurate cost allocation across components and settlements.

Support accountability requirements including grievance redress related financial documentation and safeguarding risk mitigation costs.
About you
-
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have a minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management or accounting for donor funded projects. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related field.

Demonstrable experience working with international donor requirements, preferably World Bank or other multilateral financing institutions.

Experience managing financial reporting for field-based operations, ideally in humanitarian or refugee hosting districts.

Strong knowledge of budget monitoring, reconciliations and financial control systems.

Ability to maintain accurate and auditable documentation.

Experience supporting audits and following up on audit recommendations.

Familiarity with procurement documentation, internal controls and compliance frameworks.

Experience working with project teams, government partners and field-based staff.

Fluency in written & Spoken English.
Desirable

Professional accounting certification (CPA, ACCA or equivalent) is an added advantage
