About the Country/Multi-Country Office
Based in Addis Ababa, the Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office (HAMCO) delivers project management, procurement, and infrastructure services across Djibouti, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Sudan, with a primary focus on health, agriculture, and economic development. Established in 2009, HAMCO partners with governments and development stakeholders to implement impactful, results-driven initiatives that contribute to sustainable development. Since 2024, new projects have been aimed at expanding access to healthcare, education, energy, and livelihoods, particularly in underserved and conflict-affected regions. HAMCO also provides human resource management services, supporting the effective implementation of development initiatives. Key efforts include equipping research facilities, strengthening education and health systems, building vaccine research capacity, and enhancing resilience in communities affected by crisis. Through these interventions, HAMCO contributes to inclusive growth, regional stability, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the Horn of Africa.
Job Specific Context
This position is crucial for maintaining a clean and safe working environment within the UNOPS HAMCO office in Addis Ababa. The Cleaner will perform a variety of manual tasks to ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the premises, contributing to the overall well-being and productivity of the staff
Role Purpose
The Cleaner performs simple, repetitive manual tasks under close and direct supervision, ensuring the cleanliness and orderliness of the UNOPS premises in Addis Ababa.
Functions / Key Results Expected
1. Daily Cleaning and Maintenance
- Daily sweeping, scrubbing/mopping and polishing floors.
- Removal of dust and local contamination from the open surfaces of cabinets, shelves, tables, chairs, desks, electrical and office equipment, switches, table lamps, window sills.
- Removal of dust and stains from doors, door frames, handles.
- Daily cleaning of toilet floors, toilet pans/cubicles, urinals, wash basins and checking and cleaning of blocked drains. Disinfect toilet, canteen floor and mirror.
- Daily cleaning of all waste paper, wastage and garbage as per on-the-spot instructions from in and around the offices and their disposal outside the building in a proper and environment friendly manner or at the designated place(s). All waste papers must be shredded before disposal.
- Inserting plastic bags into trash cans.
- Cleaning of mirror and glass surfaces.
- Cleaning, washing, disinfection with special solutions of sinks, tiled walls, dispensers and accessories.
- Filling dispensers with liquid soap and toilet paper, disposable paper for toilet, towels and deodorants.
- Washing cups, water glasses and other kitchen items used by staff and keeping the refrigerator and other kitchen appliances clean.
- Clean common areas, entrance and stairs.
- Watering flowers and caring for plants.
2. Support Services
- Serve refreshment for staff, guests and meeting participants as requested.
- Provide support during any office events and celebrations.
- Carry out services such as: movement of files, dispatch of paper/mail within the offices, including movement of office supplies and goods,like (refreshment,stationary and cleaning material), making photocopies and other tasks as assigned by UNOPS staff related to the execution of their everyday official duties.
3. Monthly Deep Cleaning
- Cleaning of floors: sweeping, washing, removing stains and and sticky substances from the floor, deep cleaning of the floor.
- Removal of dust from the ventilation & AC grilles on ceilings and walls, cleaning of blinds, upholstered furniture.
- Washing of windows.
- Washing and disinfection of trash bins and office rooms, kitchens and common areas.
4. Adherence to Safety and Environmental Standards
- To observe the environmental safety of the detergents used, in accordance with sanitary standards.
- To observe the norms and rules of safety, fire and electrical safety.
- To commit to wear the Personal Protection Equipment(PPE) at all times while providing the cleaning services.
