Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. With presently 194 member states, and working in more than 130 countries worldwide, including Namibia. FAO contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.

The main of the FAO Country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources sustainably. FAO Country Office activities include the design and implementation of country-specific field programs, liaison with local donors' representatives, and active outreach activities related to FAO initiatives.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Namibia and direct to the Assistant FAO Representative – Administration.

Technical Focus

The Driver is responsible for driving the Country Office Staff of FAO Representations and visitors. He/she also provides other transportation-related and messenger services for the Country Office Staff of FAO Representations/Regional Offices.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Drive the country office staff and their official visitors on official trips and drive for the FAO Representative and his/her visitors on occasions as necessary\: observing road safety rules and UNDSS & FAO guidelines;

• Meet staff and official visitors at the airport, facilitate immigration and customs formalities, hotel check-in and other local formalities;Log official trips in/or out of the country;

• Ensure day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s) checks oil, water, battery, tires, etc.; perform minor repairs and timely arrange for any other repairs necessary to keep the vehicle safe and technically sound at all times; maintain the vehicle(s) in a clean condition;

• Handle local and organizational formalities when involved in an accident, ensure that in this case all organization and local/country rules, regulations and procedures are followed correctly;

• Check service dates and make necessary bookings for the service, collect the vehicle after the service and make necessary payment for additional repairs if applicable.

• Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches, and other communications/items from and to the country office\: go to the post office, airport, government agencies, other UN agencies, institutions, project sites, etc., to take and deliver items and communications; keep records as required;

• Performs any other duties that may be assigned

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Secondary school education

• Clean Driving Licence

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a driver, Flawless and safe driving record.

• Fluent in both written and spoken English and other UN languages is a plus.
