The Safety & Wellness Caseworker provides comprehensive, culturally appropriate, and trauma-informed case management services to Survivors of Torture (SOT) clients. This role focuses on helping clients access psychosocial support, mental health referrals, and community resources that promote healing, adjustment, and self-sufficiency. The position also supports administrative and coordination tasks including data entry, reporting, outreach, and training activities for community partners and service providers.

Major Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Client Support and Case Management
•    Provide direct case management services to Survivors of Torture clients, ensuring trauma-informed, client-centered support.
•    Conduct eligibility screenings, complete enrollment paperwork, and perform social and legal assessments for all new clients.
•    Develop individualized service and safety plans tailored to each participant’s needs and goals.
•    Assist clients in accessing benefits, mental health services, legal support, and community-based resources.
•    Advocate for clients to receive culturally and linguistically appropriate services from mainstream providers.
•    Conduct regular follow-up meetings to assess progress, address barriers, and adjust service plans as needed.
•    Maintain detailed, timely case notes and ensure all data is entered into appropriate tracking systems.

Community Engagement and Collaboration
•    Conduct outreach to refugee-serving agencies, ethnic community-based organizations, and service providers to promote awareness of the SOT program.
•    Coordinate trainings and informational sessions for partners to strengthen service capacity for torture survivors.
•    Develop and maintain partnerships with SOT network agencies, mental health providers, and community partners to enhance client referrals and service quality.

Program Administration
•    Support data collection, program reporting, and donor proposal development.
•    Assist in preparing required documentation and reports for funders and HQ as scheduled.
•    Participate actively in team meetings, staff development, and program planning.
•    Implement client satisfaction and progress surveys at intervals defined in grant requirements.
•    Follow all IRC policies, procedures, and protocols, including adherence to the IRC Way and safeguarding standards.

Key Working Relationships: 
Position Reports to: Safety & Wellness Supervisor
Indirect Reporting: Interns and Volunteers (as assigned)
Internal: Safety & Wellness team, other IRC Arizona programs
External: SOT network partners, Arizona SOT coalition members, legal service providers, community organizations, and social service agencies

Job Requirements

Education:
•    Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.

Work Experience:
•    Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in case management or social services.
•    Experience supporting trauma survivors, victims of violence, or vulnerable populations strongly preferred.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:
•    Strong organizational and time management skills; detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively across cultures.
•    Public speaking or training experience preferred.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
•    Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and problem-solve effectively.
•    Commitment to trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and ethical service delivery.

Language Skills:
•    Proficiency in written and spoken English required.
•    Bilingual ability in a refugee/immigrant language (Spanish, Dari, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, or French) preferred.

Certificates or Licenses:
•    Valid driver’s license, active insurance, and access to reliable transportation required.
•    Must be eligible for or possess a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Working Environment
•    A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. 
•    Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
•    Must be able to lift 35–50 pounds (furniture, household supplies, food boxes).
 

Compensation: (Pay Range: $22.23 - $22.59) Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
