The position operates at program level and combines strategic planning, editorial and creative oversight, and hands-on implementation. The incumbent also provides guidance and support to FSC’s regional offices and network representatives and partners to ensure consistent standards, quality, and alignment across decentralized social media account
Main Roles & Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategic redesign and ongoing development of FSC’s social media communications programme, transforming it from a set of channels into a coherent, purposeful, and future-oriented communications system.
  • Define and continuously refine the role and ambition of social media within FSC’s overall communications strategy, ensuring it supports organizational objectives, strengthens credibility, and enables long-term narrative building rather than reactive or fragmented activity.
  • Establish and maintain programme-level frameworks, standards, and governance that provide clarity, direction, and consistency for social media use across FSC, while remaining flexible enough to evolve with changing platforms and audience expectations.
  • Provide creative direction and content design leadership, setting a clear vision for how FSC’s work is presented digitally and ensuring communications are engaging, accessible, and appropriate for professional, policy, and stakeholder audiences.
  • Design and steward structured content formats, storytelling approaches, and thematic series that allow FSC to communicate complex issues clearly, build recognition over time, and sustain meaningful narratives rather than one-off posts.
  • Work closely with subject-matter experts to translate technical, scientific, and policy-related content into high-quality social media communications that are accurate, understandable, and compelling without compromising substance or credibility.
  • Safeguard FSC’s editorial integrity and institutional voice by ensuring consistency, quality, and clarity across platforms, formats, and contributors.
  • Coordinate a balanced, platform-aware distribution strategy, ensuring content is adapted thoughtfully to different environments and reducing reliance on any single channel by strengthening FSC’s overall digital presence.
  • Introduce and manage the responsible use of digital and AI-enabled tools to support research, planning, content development, and editorial consistency, ensuring these tools enhance efficiency and insight while preserving professional judgement, creativity, and quality standards.
  • Act as a strategic point of reference for the FSC network, providing guidance and practical support to regional offices, network partners, and decentralized social media account managers.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve social media guidelines, creative frameworks, templates, and best-practice resources to support consistent, high-quality communication across the FSC network.
  • Enable consistency across FSC’s global social media presence while respecting regional relevance, local context, and diverse audiences, balancing central direction with decentralized implementation.
  • Define and monitor programme-level performance indicators, using insights and evaluation to inform learning, adaptation, and continuous improvement of FSC’s social media communications.
  • Carry out any other task as assigned by the formal supervisor and project work as assigned according to special organizational needs.
