The Scope
The Forest Management Coordinator will be responsible for mapping, developing, and executing an operational plan to increase FSC-certified hectares in the country. This role involves building strong relationships with current and potential Forest Management certificate holders, understanding their needs, and supporting them through the certification process.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
  • Develop a pipeline of forest certification opportunities (natural forests and plantations) across Panama.
  • Design and revise action plans to secure new forest management certification opportunities.
  • Increase the number of Forest Management and Chain of Custody certificate holders in Panama.
  • Provide technical support for the implementation of the Forest Stewardship Standard and Chain of Custody in Panama.
  • Create and manage a portfolio of resources (guides, factsheets, audiovisual materials, etc.) to promote FSC understanding in Panama.
  • Provide technical and infield support to the agreed activities in the annual action plan set in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and FSC under the MoU.  
  • In tandem with the FSC National Representative for Colombia, Venezuela and Panama, attend strategic meetings, conferences, and events with government officials, companies, and donors to foster collaboration and partnerships.
Your profile
Education:
  • University degree in Forest Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agroforestry, Agronomy, or a related field.
  • Additional training in forest management or certification schemes is a plus.
Experience & Skills:
  • 10 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in forest management, certification, sustainability, or forestry data management.
  • Solid network of relations in Panama and in the region.
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Experience in capacity building and stakeholder workshops in the environmental sector.
  • Experience in stakeholder management and engagement. 
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to diverse stakeholder perspectives.
  • Familiarity with FSC’s programs and ability to represent FSC professionally.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
Languages & Communication:
  • Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written).
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong active listening and stakeholder engagement abilities.

The Fine Print
  • Location: Panama.
  • Working Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week).
  • Duration of Consultancy agreement: 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance).
  • Start Date: As soon as possible.
  • Travel: Frequent travel within Panama is required.
