The Bank for International Settlements, BIS is hiring a Senior Audit Manager within the Internal Audit department.
This role is based in Basel, however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
This job is available as three years fixed-term.

Purpose of the job:
The Senior Audit Manager will provide high-quality audit and advisory services to Senior Management and the Audit Committee. The role covers a wide range of operational activities across the Bank, ensuring processes and controls are robust, efficient, and aligned with the Bank's objectives.
By joining the Internal Audit team, you will:
- Ensure thorough audit oversight across all operational activities.
- Lead and execute a portfolio of operational audit and advisory engagements using a risk-based methodology.
- Collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders, offering advice and insights that add value to the organisation.
Principal accountabilities:
- Deliver comprehensive audit coverage for all operational activities of the BIS, including Finance, Human Resources, Information Management, Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Ethics & Conduct, Legal, BIS regional offices and Innovation Hubs, special projects (e.g. real estate projects).
- Plan, lead and execute a portfolio of operational audit and advisory engagements using BIS’s risk-based methodology. Act as a team leader and team member to ensure high-quality delivery of the approved audit plan.
- Lead audit assignments as a team lead, guiding a team of Audit professionals to ensure the high-quality delivery of the approved audit plan.
- Prepare impactful audit reports for Senior Management and the Audit Committee, clearly communicating key observations and providing actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain high-quality audit documentation and conduct thorough analyses to support well-founded conclusions.
- Ensure all audit engagements are conducted in alignment with professional standards and the approved audit plan.
- Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations to ensure timely and effective resolution of identified issues.
- Manage a diverse portfolio of audit projects while effectively collaborating with key stakeholders across the organisation.
- Build strong relationships with business areas, providing advice and insights that add value to the organisation.
- As part of the IA Management team, provide leadership, drive strategic and operational initiatives and projects as deemed necessary.
- Support Internal Audit Management in developing, coaching and motivating team members and building a cohesive team.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and high performance within the Internal Audit team.
- Demonstrate strong leadership by fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and high performance within the Internal Audit team.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the Internal Audit team by promoting new ideas, tools, and methodologies to enhance audit processes.
Qualifications, skills, and experience:
- A relevant university degree.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Around 15 years of progressive audit experience within the financial services sector, a Central Bank, or an International Financial Institution, with at least 5-10 years in an engagement leader role.
- Exceptional report writing skills with ability to engage and report to a variety of audiences ranging from technical to organizational leadership and the Audit Committee.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural teams.
- Ability to multitask and handle concurrent responsibilities.
- Proven ability to challenge senior stakeholders constructively and confidently.
- Strong customer orientation, personal initiative, and professional presence.
- Exceptional organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Proven track record of leading diverse operational audit and advisory engagements in the relevant fields.
- Experience with a Big 4 audit firm and Audit Committee engagement is an advantage.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
