About UNFPA and How You Can Make a Difference:
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. As UNFPA expands its digital engagement with young, global audiences, short-form video content, particularly on TikTok, plays an increasingly strategic role in amplifying our mandate and highlighting the organisation’s impact.
To support this work, UNFPA seeks a Social Media Intern who will focus on producing engaging, high-impact on-camera mobile videos optimized for TikTok. The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller, comfortable being in front of the camera, and able to translate complex issues into relatable, youth-friendly content.
Internship offering is limited to candidates applying from within the duty station of the hiring unit (New York City) or able to undertake the internship remotely. The assignment is for a duration of 24 weeks, and candidates are required to indicate which of the two internship periods they are available for.
Role Description:
The Social Media Intern will support UNFPA HQ’s digital engagement by producing compelling on-camera mobile videos for TikTok. The intern will contribute to content ideation, filming, and editing of high-impact videos that showcase UNFPA’s mandate, global priorities, and storytelling needs. The ideal candidate must be comfortable appearing on camera, filming with a phone, and adapting content to TikTok’s trending formats and platform best practices.
Working closely with the Digital Communications Team and under the supervision of the Social Media Specialist, the intern will ensure all video outputs align with UNFPA’s brand and values while bringing fresh, creative approaches to expanding UNFPA’s reach among young and digital-first audiences.
A work plan with achievements for the duration of the internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern enhancing her/his skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate and Digital Communications.
