Organizational Setting
FAO's office for Yemen is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities under Yemen. It develops and maintains relations with the relevant Ministries at country level.
This position is based in FAO Representation in Aden, Yemen. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative (FAOR), and the technical guidance and the direct supervision of the Construction Engineer Specialist.
Technical Focus
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the planning, design, technical review, and supervision of all electrical, solar power, HVAC, low-current, mechanical, and safety systems for FAO projects across various programmes, as well as FAO offices and guesthouses. The incumbent ensures that all systems are designed and implemented in accordance with international standards, FAO technical guidelines, and safety requirements.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Design and review electrical, solar power, HVAC, and electromechanical systems, including load calculations, wiring layouts, and emergency/backup power configurations.
• Prepare and validate low-current system designs, such as CCTV, fire alarm/suppression, public address, and access-control systems.
• Develop BoQs, cost estimates, and technical specifications for all electrical, HVAC, solar, and low-current components of FAO projects.
• Conduct site inspections and supervise implementation to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and safety standards.
• Review and approve contractors’ technical submissions, including inspection requests, shop drawings, and as-built documentation.
• Assess and verify delivered materials for quality and conformity with technical specifications.
• Review contractors’ payment certificates, verify executed quantities, and provide technical certification.
• Assess electrical, solar, HVAC, and low-current systems in FAO offices and guesthouses and recommend upgrades or corrective actions.
• Provide technical support and coordination with construction engineers, procurement teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Ensure the application of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards and contribute to safety inspections across all sites.

Minimum Requirements
• University degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or relevant field.
• Three years of relevant experience in electrical design, solar power systems, HVAC, and low-current systems (CCTV, fire alarm, access control), and provision of engineering advisory services, or related roles.
• Working knowledge of English and Arabic.
• National of Yemen.
