SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in134 countries worldwide. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia current works in three regions; Banadir Region (Heliwa, Wadajir, Dharkenley and Dayninle districts) southwest-state (Baidoa, Burhakaba, Berdale, Baidoa and Hudur) and Hirshabelle State (Jowhar, Adale & Balcad).

Position title:                         Nursing/Midwifery Tutor

Reporting to:                         College of Health Science University Principal

Job summary:

The role involves demonstrating and teaching patient care in both classroom and clinical settings to health science students. Responsibilities include delivering lectures and hands-on training in various nursing and healthcare subjects, ensuring students develop the necessary knowledge and practical skills. The position may involve a combination of teaching and research activities. Additionally, the employee is expected to design and implement instructional strategies that enhance student learning, assess academic performance, and contribute to curriculum development in nursing, midwifery, and public health studies.

Job responsibilities:

  • Deliver individual and small group instruction to strengthen students' understanding of key subjects, including Fundamentals of Nursing, Pathology, Medical surgical Nursing, Medical Nursing, Obstetrics, Trauma & Emergency, Communicable Diseases, Community Health, Psychiatry, Orthopaedic, Theatre Nursing & Physiotherapy.
  • Conduct hands-on practical sessions and clinical demonstrations to enhance students' technical skills and real-world application.
  • Assess student performance through coursework evaluation, grading, and practical competency assessments.
  • Supervise and mentor students in research projects, academic writing, and evidence-based practice.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, academic progress, and assessment outcomes.
  • Plan, organize, and manage class schedules to ensure smooth course coordination and effective learning.
  • Provide academic mentorship and professional guidance to support students' career development.
  • Train medical staff in essential skills and knowledge areas relevant to their roles.
  • Collaborate with faculty and institutional leadership to enhance curriculum development and instructional strategies.
  • Manage and maintain comprehensive alumni records, ensuring accurate tracking of graduates' career progress, professional achievements, and ongoing engagement with the institution.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned to support institutional objectives and academic excellence.

Job competencies:

  • Registered Community Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery and a Master’s degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Healthcare Administration, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience at the university level, with demonstrated ability to deliver both theoretical and practical instruction effectively.
  • This position is open to Somali National only.
  • Proficient in essential nursing and midwifery procedures, including clinical demonstrations, patient care techniques, and supervision of student practice.
  • Strong academic writing and reporting skills, capable of producing structured, evidence-based documentation and assessments.
  • Effective counseling and mentorship abilities, supporting students’ academic progress and professional development.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse student groups and collaborate with faculty and staff.
  • Advanced computer literacy, including use of educational platforms, digital tools for teaching, and academic record management systems.
  • Persuasion and negotiation skills, useful in academic coordination, student engagement, and institutional collaboration.
  • Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning, with a proactive approach to improving teaching practices and student outcomes.
