INTRODUCTION TO GGGI
The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. To learn more please visit about GGGI web page.
In Kenya and Ethiopia, GGGI promotes green growth by advancing biodiversity conservation and the development of a sustainable bioeconomy across key economic sectors, in alignment with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).
The IKI-funded SYMBIOTIC project on Mainstreaming Biodiversity into Economic Sectors is part of a broader multi-country initiative to position biodiversity as a driver of sustainable economic development. In Kenya and Ethiopia, the project focuses on private sector engagement, biodiversity and nature-positive finance, and the integration of biodiversity into economic planning, investment, and business practices, while supporting NBSAP implementation.
Key areas of work include strengthening policy and institutional frameworks, promoting biodiversity-positive and bioeconomy value chains, mobilising nature-positive finance, integrating biodiversity into climate and development finance systems, building national and private sector capacity, and establishing robust monitoring and learning systems to track progress toward biodiversity targets.
To support effective project delivery, GGGI is seeking an experienced Project Officer based in Kenya to lead implementation of the SYMBIOTIC project in Kenya and Ethiopia. The Project Officer will be responsible for the full project management cycle, including coordination of workstreams, stakeholder engagement, donor reporting, budget oversight, and team management, and will report to the Manager, Africa Strategy and Partnerships & Head of Kenya Office.
