Result of Service

Providing substantive support to the Chief, Representative Office in Cairo (C/ROCA) with the bilateral and multilateral engagements and briefings. As well as in positioning the Agency within the wider UN initiatives/events in Egypt, producing the quarterly newsletter and maintaining C/ROCA social media accounts.

Duties and Responsibilities

Working closely with the Special Assistant to the C/ROCA, the Advisor will be responsible for activities described below Specific Outputs/Tasks include but not limited to: • In coordination with ERCD, Fos and Programmes, implements communication products and strategies to enhance UNRWA's visibility in Egypt and the region:  Produce quarterly newsletters in Arabic and English and ad hoc press releases (e.g., during CG visits).  Create and disseminate communication materials per UNRWA guidelines (brochures, posters, banners, infographics, etc.),  Manage the daily content for the ROCA social media channels (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter).  Produce advocacy and fundraising messaging tailored to Egypt and the region. • In coordination with the Communications Division, enhance media engagements and advocacy to elevate UNRWA's profile and public support:  Organize media interviews and press engagements for C/ROCA;  Foster strong relationships with Cairo-based and regional journalists and media outlets;  supports efforts to maintain brand consistency and amplify UNRWA’s messages regionally; • Participate in monthly United Nations Communication Group meetings to identify and engage in joint advocacy efforts. • Support the organization of UNRWA events in Cairo, such as signing ceremonies and press conferences, liaising with relevant stakeholders. • In coordination with ERCD, FOs and Programmes, prepare reports, briefings, talking points and speeches for C/ROCA’s external engagements. • Collect and analyze information from local and regional media outlets, events, public opinion and press coverage; identify key issues and trends that affect or is related to UNRWA; ensure timely reporting of relevant developments and advise C/ROCA accordingly. • Respond to queries related to financial and in-kind contributions to UNRWA and the Gaza crisis and coordinate with relevant departments. • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/special skills

• A university degree from an accredited educational institution in journalism, communications, electronic media, digital communications, public or international relations or related fields. • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in communications, public relations, media relations and/or public affairs, including experience in a multicultural environment • Experience in social media content creation and outreach. • Experience in drafting concise communication campaigns. • Proficiency in Office 365 and standard software applications used by the Agency. • Experience in similar positions with the UN is an advantage. • Ability to use photoshop and other photo/design software programmes is desirable.

Languages

Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic with a demonstrated ability to write clearly, concisely, accurately, and quickly.

REPORTING AND ADMINISTRATION The Advisor will report to the Chief, Representative Office in Cairo. REMUNERATION Fee-related deliverables with ceiling of $1,512.5 Gross/month.
