About the Region
The UNOPS Middle East Region (MR) provides strategic leadership, performance oversight, and support to UNOPS operations across Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and the State of Palestine. MR is responsible for positioning UNOPS as a key development partner in the region through high-level engagement with regional bodies, UN coordination mechanisms, development banks, donors, and intergovernmental organisations. By fostering strategic partnerships and promoting operational excellence, the region supports country teams in delivering sustainable solutions to complex development, peace, and humanitarian challenges
Job Specific Context
This position operates within a complex and dynamic security landscape across the Middle East Region. The Regional Security Advisor (RSA) plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of UNOPS personnel, assets, and operations, enabling the effective delivery of projects in challenging environments. The RSA provides expert advice, develops and implements security strategies, and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders to mitigate risks and ensure business continuity.
Role Purpose
The Regional Security Advisor (RSA) reports to both the Regional Director (RD) and the Chief of Security (CoS), and supports them in their security related responsibilities. Within delegated authority, the RSA will be responsible for the following results in the regional area of responsibility.

Competencies
Education Requirements
- Advanced University Degree (Masters Degree or equivalent); or
- First Level University Degree (Bachelor's Degree or equivalent) with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or
- Military or Police senior Command and Staff College qualification at a senior level with a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience is required
Experience Requirements
Required
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, defined as experience in international security management or similar positions (required).
- Demonstrated experience at the professional level working with the UN security management system, governments, security forces or international corporate firms.
- Operational experience in conflict or post conflict environments, or complex security settings
Desired
- Demonstrated experience coordinating security arrangements with military, police and other security forces.
- Operational knowledge and experience of the Middle East region.
- Demonstrated experience in producing Standard Operational Procedures/Security Risk Assessments/Security Plans in accordance with UNDSS methodology.
