Nature of the consultancy
Under the overall supervision of the Program Manager (DA and AVRR) and the direct supervision of the Programme Assistant, the consultant will assist in delivering legal awareness sessions and providing legal services to migrants and refugees in vulnerable situation, including victims of human rights abuses and exploitation. The selected candidate is expected to carry out his/her duties in accordance with the strictest moral and ethical standards and with due respect for gender and socio-cultural differences.
The Direct Assistance (DA) team of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is dedicated to delivering a range of services, including psychosocial, medical, legal, educational, financial, livelihood, housing, and non-food items (NFIs), to support vulnerable migrants and victims of trafficking in Egypt. Recognizing the unique experiences of each migrant, the Direct Assistance program is committed to offering customized interventions and support to effectively address the distinct needs and circumstances of each individual client.

Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive legal counselling and representation to migrants on legal matters.
- Assist migrants in preparing legal documents and submissions.
- Represent migrants in legal proceedings, including court appearances and tribunal hearings for cases such as (Child custody cases – Divorce – Human Trafficking – Protection) and any other matter.
- Raise migrants’ communities’ awareness of their legal rights and obligations through facilitating legal awareness sessions and other community-based engagements).
- Attend the follow-up meetings as requested.
- Provide feedback on assigned cases in a timely manner.
- The consultant is obligated to coordinate the scope of legal services with the IOM Legal Focal Point and notify if he/she is unavailable to accept referrals, ensuring that the workflow is not disrupted.
- Deliver the requested legal services efficiently to the applicants and respond to each case.
- Draft legal information guides.
- Facilitate the issuance of legal documentation such as (Birth Certificate – Residency – Death certificate – Marriage contract – Divorce contract) and any other legal document as requested.
- Perform other duties as they might be assigned.
The lawyer consultant will submit a financial proposal-along with job application as an attachment-in EGP for each item related to the services below:

Qualifications
A degree in Law from a recognized institution.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in providing legal assistance, preferably with migrants or in human rights law.
Experience in representing clients in legal proceedings.
Knowledge of national and international laws relating to migration and human rights.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong computer skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in legal research and writing.
Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple cases simultaneously.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals.
Proficiency in Arabic and English speaking and writing.

Consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
