About this position

You will join the Inter-American Institute for Economic and Social Development (INDES) at the IDB. For over 30 years, INDES has delivered learning solutions to strengthen the capacities of development actors in Latin America and the Caribbean, aiming to transform institutions and their environments.

INDES offers tailored, practical learning solutions built on the knowledge, experience, and continuous learning of the IDB Group. These solutions help implement the priorities of the IDB and its member countries, improving the quality and impact of development initiatives across the Region.

In this context, we are looking for a strategic and highly motivated professional with experience in designing, producing, delivering, and evaluating learning solutions to join our team as an Instructional Designer. You will work on the needs assessment, design, production, delivery, and evaluation of learning solutions, ensuring that they align with the organization’s strategic goals, INDES quality standards and meet the needs of the target audience. This also may include administrative and logistical aspects of the production and delivery of project activities. 

What you’ll do

  • Support the creation of learning solutions by applying adult learning principles and cognitive science.
  • Conduct learning needs assessments, identify gaps, define audiences, and prioritize requirements across teams.
  • Define measurables learning objectives; design modular structures, sequencing, and duration of resources/activities for courses, workshops, and other solutions.
  • Design formative and summative assessments with their corresponding rubrics; ensuring the alignment among objectives, content, activities, resources, and technologies available.
  • Collaborate with SMEs and INDES teams to validate objectives, ensure the quality/relevance of proposed resources, activities, and assessments.
  • Draft and edit learning materials and activities considering the possibilities and limitations of the LMS in use; prepare participant guides, case studies, readings, infographics, tutorials, practical exercises, among other instructional assets.
  • Draft and edit learning materials using industry-standard authoring tools such as Articulate Rise, Storyline, Genially, etc.
  • In coordination with SMEs, develop instructional video scripts, questions, and storyboards for audio/video and interactive learning media.
  • Design and analyze surveys and other instruments to measure learners' reactions and changes in knowledge, skills, behaviors, and practices.
  • Audit existing courses and recommend enhancements based on evaluation findings, INDES standards, and current best/innovative practices.
  • Introduce instructional design best practices and innovative strategies and technologies to drive ongoing program quality.
  • Ensure accessibility standards for learning materials.

What you'll need

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Education & Training, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.  
  • Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in Education & Training and Instructional Design.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work 
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
