Job Overview:
We are looking for a Roving Protection Caseworker, who will play a key role in supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and severe social marginalization in Trieste. Working closely with IRC’s Unità di Strada outreach team, which conducts daily outreach in key areas of the city, this position focuses on building trust, assessing needs, and connecting people to essential services. The role requires flexibility, mobility, and strong interpersonal skills.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Conduct regular outreach in urban areas and low-threshold facilities (dormitories, soup kitchens, day centers).
Build trust-based relationships with individuals, ensuring a respectful and protection-sensitive approach.
Perform initial interviews and multidimensional needs assessments.
Provide first-line guidance and referrals to social, health, housing, and legal services.
Accompany individuals to local services when necessary to ensure continuity of care.
Strengthen connections between marginalized individuals and local support networks.
Coordinate with Municipal Social Services and NGOs; participate in case discussions and coordination meetings.
Maintain accurate case documentation and contribute to monitoring and reporting.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, or related field.
Minimum 2 years of experience in outreach, case management, or social services (experience with homelessness or marginalization is an asset).
Strong adaptability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings.
Excellent communication and reporting skills.
Native-level Italian (spoken and written); additional languages are an asset.
Based in Trieste or willing to work regularly in the city.
Valid driving license and access to a personal vehicle.
