Since 2017, IRC has supported Rohingya Refugees and Bangladeshi nationalities communities in Cox's Bazar, Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong with integrated services. The organization also addresses climate change impacts by building resilience and promoting economic recovery, education, and protection.

Purpose of the Role
IRC Bangladesh is looking for an experienced, dynamic candidate to fill the position of Senior Officer-Advocacy and Communication responsible for supporting the communication needs of the country program in Bangladesh. This will be accomplished by collaborating closely with the Program and MEAL teams to gather communication content such as success/human stories, photographs, and audio-visual production, managing social media as well as assisting with developing press releases for sharing with national and international media.

Highlights of core responsibility:
Information sharing and global communications (40%)

  • Provide frequent updates on the latest program information and context through the distribution of factsheets and information to the country team and the Global Crisis & Response Communications Team.
  • Proactively develop story ideas for pitching to the IRC’s digital platforms and international media. 
  • Deliver training on informed consent protocols, IRC global branding, and story spotting to program teams.
  • Work closely with the program and MEAL teams to collect, capture, and document data and information on IRC programs, including the impact of climate change on the needs of Rohingya communities and Bangladeshi nationals. This information will be presented in the form of case studies, human stories, Videos, and other content. Collate this information into reports, newsletters, and products that highlight the role of climate change in shaping the challenges faced by these communities, and share it with internal and external audiences, including donors and the media.
  • Support the development of IRC Bangladesh’s communications strategy in line with program goals and organizational priorities.

Content creation and development (30%)

  • Collect case studies, photos, and video content from IRC Bangladesh programs for use across the IRC’s internal and external channels, including donor engagement and the IRC’s website.
  • Ensure all materials are on brand and in line with IRC global communications guidelines and donor visibility requirements.
  • Proactively develop innovative communication ideas that can contribute to achieving the project’s goal and highlight the project's impact.
  • Support to produce advocacy and communication statements/briefs/messages/letters.

Social Media Management (15%)

  • Develop and execution of the country level social media strategy to enhance IRC Bangladesh’s visibility, strengthen advocacy messaging, and ensure alignment with global communication standards.
  • Planning, creation, and publication of high-quality digital content (including posts, videos, reels, photos, graphics, and stories), ensuring accuracy, brand consistency, strong audience engagement, and timely response to emerging opportunities or issues.
  • Monitor platform performance, audience insights, and digital trends, producing regular analytics reports and using data to optimize content, grow reach, and improve engagement across all social media channels.

Relationship Building (15%)

  • Represent IRC Bangladesh to a range of internal teams, including programs teams, advocacy teams, and global communications teams.
  • Represent IRC as a leading agency in Bangladesh in sector-relevant national & local networks and forums by participating in events and building strong working relationships with peer colleagues and organizations.

Others

  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion and cohesion in IRC [team/office].
  • Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, media relationship and journalism/Film and Media Studies, Visual Communication/Multimedia Studies/Information & Communication Technology (ICT) with communication specialization/Marketing/Digital Marketing. 

Work Environment: 50% of travel is expected.

  • At least 3 years of experience in communications, graphic design, audio visual production, social media management, and advocacy within development and humanitarian organizations. (Essential)
  • Strong understanding of humanitarian and development contexts and ability to translate technical information into clear messaging. (Essential) 
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills in English and Bangla for reports, briefs, and digital content. (Essential)
  • Proven experience in digital communication and social media management, including analytics and content planning. (Essential)
  • Strong visual communication skills, including graphic design, photography, and videography. (Essential)
  • Ability to produce high quality multimedia content (videos, reels, infographics, photo stories). (Essential)
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with media, partners, and stakeholders. (Preferred)
  • Solid understanding of advocacy communication, including messaging, stakeholder mapping, and policy influence. (Preferred)
  • Ability to lead and coordinate communication initiatives, collaborate across teams, and mentor junior staff. (Essential)
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks. (Essential)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe tools) and willingness to travel up to 50%. (Essential)
