The consultant will contribute to the following deliverables: • Technical Assistance requests, response plans and reporting. • Reviews of Gender assessment action plans (GAAP). • Partnership agreements and bidding documents. • Concept notes for collaborative activities and potential partnerships (network members, universities, private sector, development partners, donors, etc). • Content for use in CTCN case studies, reports, presentations and promotional materials – especially related to CTCN activities in Africa, activities related to TNA, and activities related to CTCN’s Gender Policy and Action Plan. • Technology Mechanism Climate Technology and Gender Roster. • Annual reviews of the CTCN Gender Action Plan. • Reporting to donors – especially related to the implementation of CTCN activities in Africa, activities related to TNA, and activities related to CTCN’s Gender Policy and Action Plan • Delivery of Africa regional NDE Forums and contribution to Africa capacity building programmes. • Arrangement for logistic support for African NDEs. • Enhanced network members connection in Africa. • Briefings and documentation for the Advisory Board members and CTCN management and UNEP.

Duties and Responsibilities
This position is located in Nairobi, Kenya for the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), Climate Change Division. The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: A – Support the development and delivery of the CTCN technical assistance in Africa: • Support countries for the development of technical assistance requests. • Review requests submitted by countries to the CTCN and provide recommendations on request eligibility, prioritisation, refinement and response development. • Design, coordination and implementation of technical assistance response plans. • Monitor the work of implementers, ensure compliance with work plan timelines and deliverable schedules. • Review and provide recommendations on the quality of deliverables, including completion reports. • Contribute to the implementation of post TA activities in Africa as per guidance of the CTCN Advisory Board. B - Implementation and monitoring of CTCN’s Gender Policy and Action Plan for 2023-2027: • Coordinate partnerships, planning and delivery for trainings and webinars on gender and climate technologies to raise awareness, share knowledge and best practices. • Maintain and promote the Technology Mechanism Climate Technology and Gender Roster. • Identify opportunities for partnerships with organizations like Women Engaged for a Common Future to support initiatives like the Gender Just Climate Solutions publication. • Coordinate the creation of fact sheets, guidelines, manuals, and sectoral overviews to address gender considerations in various climate technology sectors and their dissemination via the CTCN web platform. • Conduct reviews and analysis of GAAPs and of sections on gender in TA closure reports for reporting and learning purposes for the annual review of the CTCN’s Gender Action Plan. C – Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) • Review and analysis of CTCN-led Technology Needs Assessments including follow-up actions/impacts. • Collect information on how CTCN TAs support the implementation of TNA/TAPs. • Respond to requests and draft briefings and slides for information on CTCN and TNAs, including in response to requests from the CTCN Advisory Board. • Work closely with UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee and UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre to advance the implementation of TNA/TAPs including by providing relevant inputs to their work. D – Engagement with NDEs, Network members, and partners in the Africa region • Build and maintain strong relationships with NDEs, network members, finance institutions, initiatives, and relevant players active in Africa. • Support the organization of CTCN Africa NDE Forums and capacity building workshops/programmes, including contributing to the preparation of agenda, identifying speakers, closely liaising with UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee, and mobilizing NDEs and network members in the regions for their active participation. • Coordinate the implementation of logistic support to African NDEs, including preparation of Small-scale Funding Agreements with respective countries and monitoring and assess the viability of results of logistic supports for technical assistance. • Support the identification of potential network members in Africa and opportunities for partnerships and collaboration on matchmaking, trainings, knowledge management and experience sharing in accordance to CTCN Network engagement strategy. • Contribute to showcasing CTCN work in events organized by UNEP, partners, network members and countries, as requested. E - Performs other tasks as may be requested by the CTCN Regional Manager for Africa and the Director of the CTCN.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in engineering, energy systems, environmental science or related field. • At least 2 years of professional experience in the fields of energy, climate change and international development is required. • Experience in climate change issues with different countries in Africa is required. Good knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation related issues in the region is an asset. • Experience of preparing briefing notes, planning documents and/or other project coordination tools is an asset. • Experience in design and delivery of technology transfer and/or knowledge sharing is an asset. • Experience of working with International Organizations is an asset. • Understanding and experience with UNFCCC activities is an asset. • Understanding and experience with UN Programs, their development and implementation activities is an advantage. • Excellent communication skills and respect for a multicultural workplace; • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines; • Ability to plan, prioritize and deliver tasks effectively and on time; • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
