1. About the Role Digital Technology Strategy & Solutions (DTSS) is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Engineering to architect and manage the development of Gaviâs enterprise data platforms, pipelines, and integration services. This role is critical to enabling data-driven decision-making by ensuring the availability, quality, and accessibility of data across systems such as SAP, Salesforce, and Microsoft 365. As the technical lead, you will guide a team of data engineers, work closely with data analysts, product teams, and business units, and oversee the architecture and operation of Gaviâs cloud-based data infrastructure including the evolution of platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and other Azure-based data services. The role places particular emphasis on data modelling, data governance alignment, and high-quality documentation to ensure consistent, trusted, and reusable data assets across the organization.
2. Key Responsibilities Data Platform Architecture
- Design, implement, and evolve Gaviâs cloud-based data architecture using platforms such as Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, or similar tools.
- Define enterprise data modelling standards and contribute to shared design patterns that support analytics, reporting, and advanced data use cases.
- Establish guidance for storage optimization, data lifecycle management, and documentation standards to support maintainability and reuse.
Pipeline Development & Data Integration
- Lead the design and development of scalable data pipelines integrating data from systems including SAP, Salesforce, and other enterprise applications.
- Ensure data pipelines are robust, maintainable, and follow best practices in orchestration and error handling.
- Promote and enforce high standards for pipeline documentation, data lineage visibility, and metadata consistency.
Team Leadership & Delivery Management
- Manage a small team of data engineers, providing technical leadership, mentoring, and code reviews.
- Coordinate sprint planning, backlog grooming, and prioritization with data integrity and platform teams.
Data Quality & Security
- Ensure data pipelines and storage solutions meet data integrity, availability, and confidentiality requirements.
- Collaborate with the cybersecurity and data integrity teams to implement access controls, data masking, auditing, and governance-aligned data models.
- Contribute to establishing standards for documentation, naming conventions, and data stewardship practices across the data engineering landscape.
- Collaboration & Architecture Support
- Work closely with analysts, business teams, and application owners to understand data needs and translate them into scalable, well-modelled solutions.
- Provide architectural input during project planning and vendor evaluations, ensuring alignment with established data patterns and governance expectations.
- Other responsibilities as required.
3. Your Experience and Skills Academic
- Bachelorâs in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field required. Masters preferred.
Work Experience
- Typically 8 to 12 years in data engineering or software development, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.
- Experience delivering cloud-based data integration and analytics platforms is required.
- Excellent experience with Azure Data Services, Microsoft Fabric, SQL, and ETL/ELT tools is desired.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in building and maintaining data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouse/data lakehouse models is essential.
- Knowledge of data APIs, security frameworks, orchestration tools and standards-based documentation practices is required.
- Familiarity with data from ERP and CRM systems such as SAP and Salesforce is ideal.
Leadership & Communication
- Excellent team leadership and project coordination skills.
- Able to translate business needs into technical designs and influence across functions.
Languages
- Written and spoken fluency in English.
- French is a plus.
