The Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) seeks qualified U.S. citizens interested in joining its International Staff in Sinai as members of the Civilian Observer Unit. Civilian Observers are trained and expected to maintain a high level of proficiency in map reading, land navigation, radio communication procedures, first aid, and military equipment recognition. Additionally, Civilian Observers regularly provide oral and written reports on mission results that present concise analysis to executive level decision makers.

All candidates must be U.S. citizens who possess a bachelor’s degree. Key competencies include:

  • Basic proficiency in map reading and land navigation.
  • Basic knowledge of military equipment, organization, and weapons systems.

  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new surroundings and different cultures, and work collegially and diplomatically in a multinational environment.
  • Ability to work long hours for several days at a time.
  • Ability to convey complex information in a comprehensive manner.
  • Ability to work and live in a desert climate, in an austere environment, with regional travel subject to force protection measures.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to learn the employment of satellite communications equipment.

A basic proficiency in Arabic/Hebrew is preferred.

Employment is offered as a two-year renewable, unaccompanied status contract that includes a tax reimbursable salary of approximately USD$122,000, free on-camp housing and dining, worldwide healthcare insurance, life insurance, and free access to recreational facilities.

Individuals with honorable service in the U.S. Armed Forces (Field Grade Officer or Senior Enlisted Advisor), Foreign Service, or other U.S. government agencies with experience in the Middle East region are especially encouraged to apply.
