Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of the PSEAH Officer and technical supervision of the Gender Specialist on gender-related activities, the PSEA Associate provides operational support to the implementation of PSEA and safeguarding activities. The incumbent works in close coordination with the Gender Associate and other teams to support capacity-building, awareness-raising, and field-level implementation of safeguarding initiatives, in line with Client policies and procedures.

Role objectives

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of Client PSEA trainings to CO Client staff and related personnel (national and international staff, JPOs, secondees, consultants, UNVs, interns, third-party contractors, etc.), using existing training materials; in coordination with HR, support the tracking of training compliance.

  • When required, support the translation of PSEA awareness-raising and communication materials into local languages (Dari and Pashto).

  • Support capacity-building of Client partners on PSEA, including supporting partner PSEA capacity assessments, delivering trainings to partner staff, and briefing partners on applicable PSEA requirements.

  • Support the logistical and administrative arrangements for safeguarding activities, including raising PRs and coordinating the organization of Gender and PSEA trainings and workshops.

  • Support the facilitation of men’s support sessions, including travelling to field locations to lead the sessions with male staff using established approaches and materials, as required.

  • Work closely with PSEA and Gender focal points in the field locations, providing technical support for the implementation of safeguarding workplans.

  • Continually support awareness-raising activities and promote the reporting of sexual misconduct to Client through the We Are All In platform and other established reporting channels developed within the country.

  • Support the Safeguarding Unit in conducting PSEA and Gender assessments in the field locations using relevant tools (PSEA risk assessment tool and gender analysis tool), including supporting focus group discussions with men community members.

  • Provide functional support to maintain business continuity of PSEA and safeguarding activities, in coordination with relevant colleagues and in line with established procedures.

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, gender studies, human rights and related field from an accredited academic institution with four (4) years of professional working experience.

     Or

  • High School diploma with Six (6) years of relevant professional experience.

Experience:

  • Prior experience working on PSEA, AAP and/or gender-related activities, is preferred.

  • Knowledge of and previous experience in PSEA, gender, protection, accountability to affected populations (AAP), and/or gender-based violence (GBV), is preferred.

  • Experience in delivering trainings and supporting capacity-building initiatives for staff and/or partners using established materials.

  • Strong language skills to support and deliver trainings in English, Dari and Pashto; knowledge of additional local languages is an asset.

Skills:

  • Good written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties.

  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

  • Flexibility in working overtime when needed.

  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel).

  • Willing to collaborate with and support people from different ethnic groups and different religions.

Languages:

  • For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

  • Working knowledge of Pashto or Dari is required.

  • Fluency in all national language(s) are highly advantages.
