The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is an international financial institution and a specialized United Nations agency dedicated to eradicating rural poverty and hunger. It does so by investing in rural people. IFAD finances programmes and projects that increase agricultural productivity and raise rural incomes, and advocates at the local, national and international level for policies that contribute to rural transformation.
The Communications Division (COM) leads IFAD's global communications and public advocacy, growing the Fund's visibility and reputation, and promoting the IFAD brand. It expands IFAD's media presence and digital footprint, connecting audiences with stories of IFAD's work and impact. COM also leads on internal communications, keeping IFAD's staff informed and involved. COM is led by a Divisional Director supported by the Chief, Communications Strategy and Operations, and is comprised of four (4) teams: External Engagement, Partner and Field Engagement, Production, and Strategic Planning and Internal Communication.
Key Functions and Results
Under the supervision of the Web and Social Media Lead, the Digital Content Coordinator consultant will focus on the following responsibilities to ensure deadlines at met, consistency, quality control. This role focuses on providing hands-on technical and advisory support across digital content, strategy, analytics, and editorial coordination. It is designed to support and enable IFAD's work, without responsibility for managing budgets, supervising staff, or making organisational decisions. Core activities include, but not limited to
- Supports and coordinates digital strategy and workflow, leveraging social media channels, ifad.org and other digital platforms to increase IFAD's digital presence and influence with target audiences and key stakeholders, in-line with organizational needs and priorities;
- Coordinates ongoing development and maintenance of IFAD's corporate website, ensuring content is up-to-date and the site structure is well functioning;
- Tracks and analyses monthly website usage statistics, makes recommendations and actively implements ongoing improvements, particularly as it concerns SEO;
- Reports on key performance indicators for web, social and multimedia and adjust digital strategy based on evidence and analytics;
- Troubleshoots website operations, identifies problems and works as necessary with COM partners such as the ICT Division to debug website issues;
- Coordinates and supports the creation of new sections on the website, as well as the development of related microsites and other digital platforms;
- Review, fact check, edit and rewrite or write original web content - news, feature stories, blogs, photo essays, programme and thematic pages - ensuring consistent copy style, messaging and alignment with SEO best practices;
- Identify and coordinate opportunities for digital diplomacy, engagement with member countries accounts, and private sector actors;
- Schedule, proofread and check digital content for accuracy and timeliness;
- Monitors and reports issues related to reputational risk and proposes follow up actions;
- Support in holistic digital editorial planning and processes with colleagues;
- Support the wider communication team by working on wider digital products such as newsletters, web articles, blogs, and multimedia;
- Ensure collaboration and cooperation with other communication division teams such as the multimedia, multilingual, partnership and media teams;
- Occasional travel when required for specific and justified reasons;
- Consultants are required to work from the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and on their respective team's designated anchor day;
- Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job.
Key Performance Indicators
- Ensure the creation, editing, and maintenance of digital content across IFAD's digital platforms in line with agreed output plans, priorities, and timelines, including approximately 12 digital content pieces per month (e.g. feature stories, thematic pages, blogs, or campaign content) and ongoing updates to priority pages and institutional content as required
- Support the development and implementation of quarterly editorial plans and campaign-specific content, including the delivery of agreed digital products (e.g. thematic sections or microsites) within defined timelines
- Capture and report digital performance analytics monthly, including monthly digital performance summaries covering website, social media, and priority campaigns as well as periodic synthesis and actionable recommendations to inform ongoing content optimisation and digital strategy refinement
Job Profile Requirements
Experience and Skills:
- A minimum of 7 years of work experience in digital content;
- Strong content production and copy editing skills;
- Ability to translate technical and nuanced information into clear and engaging content for targeted audiences;
- High-level writing, editing and fact-checking for institutional web and social content
- Ability to manage parallel workstreams and competing deadlines
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
- Attention to detail and high editorial standards
- Sound judgement and discretion in sensitive communications contexts
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Flexibility and adaptability in fast-paced institutional settings
- Knowledge of digital diplomacy and institutional stakeholder engagement
- Experience in reporting on digital quantitative and qualitative analytics;
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task;
- Previous experience with a multilateral or international/UN organization desirable
