• AND PURPOSEThe WISER ActionFirstTM in Africa initiative for Eastern and Southern Africa is a multi-country project supporting countries across EAC, IGAD, and SADC to strengthen action-based forecasting and people-centred early warning systems. ActionFirstTM in Africa is led by the Met Office in the UK, in collaboration with the RSMC's across Eastern and Southern Africa, along with the WMO Regional Office. The initiative combines national co-production, regional harmonisation, technical mentoring, and learning to ensure forecasts lead to timely and effective action. The GEDSI Expert will provide strategic and hands-on technical leadership in collaboration with the Met Office GEDSI experts, and advice to ensure that all ActionFirstTM in Africa activities are inclusive, accessible, safe, and equitable, in line with WISER GEDSI Minimum Standards, UN safeguarding principles, and FCDO priorities and line with WMO Youth Action Plan. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the overall supervision of the Project Officer and WMO Representative for Eastern and Southern Africa, and the scientific and technical guidance of the RSMCs (Pretoria Nairobi) and the UK Met Office, the incumbent will perform the following duties;- Lead GEDSI analyses embedded within national baselining and co-production processes in collaboration with Met Office GEDSI lead and RSMCs;- Ensure meaningful participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities and marginalised groups in ActionFirstTM in Africa activities in collaboration with Met Office GEDSI lead and RSMCs;- Support development of accessible and inclusive warning formats in collaboration with Met Office GEDSI lead and RSMCs;- Ensure safeguarding and do-no-harm principles are applied across all project activities in line with WISER safeguarding principles;- Support GEDSI-sensitive monitoring, reporting and learning in line with the WISER Logframe;- Carry out other relevant duties as required.EXPECTED DELIVERABLES- GEDSI analysis integrated into national baselining and co-production processes in collaboration with Met Office GEDSI lead and RSMCs.- Practical guidance to ensure inclusive participation in national and sub-national co-production workshops in collaboration with Met Office GEDSI lead and RSMCs.- Inputs to the design of accessible and inclusive warning formats and dissemination approaches in collaboration with Met Office GEDSI lead and RSMCs.- GEDSI-sensitive indicators and inputs to monitoring and reporting frameworks- GEDSI inputs to quarterly narrative reports and the Project Completion Report (PCR).
