HRIS Manager

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a HRIS Manager within the Human Resources unit.

This role is based in Basel, Switzerland; however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

Purpose of the job:

Our mission is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international partnership and to act as a bank for central banks.

As an HRIS Manager, you will report directly to the Head of People Services and play a key role in ensuring the effective operation of our HR systems. You will leverage technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline processes, improve data integrity, and support the organization’s HR strategy.

By joining the HR team in the HR department, you will:

  • Be responsible for the administration, optimization, and enhancement of the HCM and payroll solution.

Principal Accountabilities:

HR Systems Administration and Optimization:

  • Manage and maintain HR systems, including but not limited to Workday, ServiceNow, and the payroll system, ensuring their alignment with HR processes and organizational goals.

  • Configure system settings, workflows, and modules to support operational needs and enhance user experience.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve system-related issues in collaboration with vendors and internal IT teams.

AI and Automation Integration:

  • Identify and implement AI-driven solutions to enhance HR processes, including predictive analytics, workforce planning, and employee engagement.

  • Leverage AI tools to automate repetitive HR tasks, optimize workflows, and improve decision-making.

  • Utilize machine learning models and algorithms to analyze HR data, forecast trends, and provide actionable insights.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and compliance across all HR systems through regular audits and data cleansing.

  • Propose Principles and best practices in terms of system maintenance and quality controls to deploy

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to support HR analytics and decision-making, incorporating AI-powered insights where applicable.

  • Monitor data quality and address discrepancies using advanced tools and techniques.

Payroll System Implementation and Management:

  • Support the selection, implementation, and integration of a new payroll system, ensuring alignment with HR and organizational requirements.

  • Oversee the ongoing management and optimization of the payroll system once implemented.

Process Improvement and Innovation:

  • Collaborate with HR and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvements and automation using HRIS and AI capabilities.

  • Drive the adoption of best practices and innovative solutions to enhance HR service delivery.

  • Document and maintain system processes, configurations, and user guides to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing.

User Support and Training:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for HRIS-related queries, providing timely support and resolution of issues.

  • Deliver training sessions and create user-friendly materials to enhance system adoption and proficiency across the HR team and other stakeholders.

  • Stay informed about system updates, AI advancements, and emerging technologies, sharing insights and best practices with the team.

Vendor and Stakeholder Management:

  • Manage relationships with external vendors (e.g., Workday, ServiceNow, payroll provider), ensuring service levels are met and system performance is optimized.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of systems and alignment with organizational needs

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Higher education diploma or equivalent work experience in HR, HRIT or other relevant areas

  • Proven experience in HRIS management or a similar role, with expertise in Workday HRIS and other systems (such as ServiceNow or equivalent platforms)

  • Strong understanding of HR processes (covering employee lifecycle management, time, payroll, benefits, and compliance)

  • Experience with AI applications (such as predictive analytics, chatbots, and process automation) ideally in the HR area

  • Proficiency in system configuration, troubleshooting, and reporting

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • Experience with system selection, implementation, and administration

  • Familiarity with AI tools (such as machine learning platforms, natural language processing (NLP), or robotic process automation (RPA))

  • Knowledge of data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and their application in HR systems

  • Certifications in HR and/or service management systems desirable (e.g. Workday, SF, ServiceNow, other HRIS)

  • Basic programming or scripting knowledge for AI tool customization (e.g., Python, R). is a plus
