About this position

You will work in the Front Office of the Vice President of Countries and Regional Integration (VPC FO) at the Inter-American Development Bank. This team leads efforts to ensure strategic planning, operational effectiveness, and cross-functional collaboration across the IDB Group’s initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean. The VPC FO is instrumental in fostering partnerships, facilitating engagement with key stakeholders, and driving institutional success in meeting regional development goals. This position will require exceptional organizational and analytical skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to adapt quickly to a dynamic environment. By leveraging your expertise, you will contribute to ensuring the success of the IDB Group’s mission to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean.


You will play a critical role in supporting the Vice President for Countries and Regional Integration (VPC) by providing strategic and logistical expertise to ensure the seamless execution of the VPC’s agenda and priorities. You will be a key collaborator in advancing the office's initiatives by coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, managing high-level logistics, and supporting the implementation of strategic plans.


You will be responsible for high-level coordination and communication within the VPC Front Office (VPC FO), acting as a bridge between senior leadership, advisors, and technical teams. Your ability to manage complex multi-stream workflows, anticipate challenges, and provide innovative solutions will be pivotal to the success of this role. Additionally, you will ensure that the VPC’s priorities are aligned with the broader institutional objectives of the IDB Group.

What you’ll do

Strategic Planning Support:

  • Play a key role in driving and coordinating the VPC Strategic Planning by mapping out annual deliverables, tasks, and key performance indicators (KPIs), in coordination with VPC FO Advisors, to align with the organization’s broader strategic goals.
  • Maintain and update a planning tool to track progress across all priorities, ensuring task completion rate on time.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact with technical and country teams to collect, validate, and synthesize execution updates, ensuring deliverables remain on schedule and issues are escalated appropriately.
  • Communicate regularly with technical teams to gather status updates and ensure deliverables remain on schedule.
  • Proactively identify potential risks or delays in the planning process and coordinate mitigation strategies.

Operational Support:

  • Provide ad hoc operational support to the VPC FO, handling operational tasks related to the Vice President that require immediate action.
  • Assist with urgent tasks, special projects, and any other duties that arise to ensure the smooth operation of the VP's office.
  • Ensure alignment of ad hoc tasks with the VP’s broader priorities and objectives, providing clear documentation of outcomes.
  • Coordinate closely with VPC FO Advisors on the preparation of presentations and documentation related to operational and programming advances, ensuring accuracy, coherence, and alignment with agreed priorities.

VPC Tracker Management:

  • Manage and continuously improve the VPC Tracker, a task-tracking system used by the VPC Front Office and Managers.
  • Upload and track strategic planning deliverables assigned to the VPC FO and Country Departments, ensuring real-time monitoring and updates with data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Information Technology team to implement system improvements, including identifying inefficiencies and optimizing workflows.
  • Provide regular reports on task completion trends, highlighting areas for improvement or intervention.

Support to Advisors:

  • Assist and coordinate with the VPC FO Strategic Advisor in managing relationships between the VPC FO the President’s Office, and the Global Partnerships Office.
  • Facilitate communication and coordinate meetings between these key offices, establishing clear feedback mechanisms to enhance collaboration effectiveness.
  • Represent the VPC FO in meetings as needed and appropriate and provide detailed follow-up reports to advisors, keeping them informed of key developments and next steps.

VPC Work Program and Board Coordination

  • Lead the coordination and management of the VPC work program, with responsibility for tracking, sequencing, and updating all VPC deliverables requiring consideration by IDB Administration Committees and the IDB Board of Executive Directors and its Committees.
  • Own end-to-end coordination of Board-bound documentation, including management of deadlines, internal clearances, sequencing, and when needed the initiation and coordination of requests for changes to timelines.
  • Maintain continuous visibility over timelines, dependencies, and risks related to submissions, actively driving follow-up and corrective actions to safeguard timely and effective consideration.

Talking Points, Briefings and Strategic Communications

  • Collaborate with the VPC FO Strategic Advisor to organize the preparation of talking points and briefings for the VP, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals.
  • Lead the initial drafting of talking points in some instances, coordinating with technical teams to validate substance, accuracy, and messaging, and integrating inputs as needed.
  • Develop and keep updated a standardized format for talking points and briefing materials to streamline the preparation process and enhance consistency.
  • Coordinate and support interviews and multimedia recordings for the Vice President, including initiatives such as Espresso Chats, liaising with Ministers’ offices and external partners to secure participation and providing on-site coordination and real-time support during recordings.
  • Own and continuously refine standardized formats and processes for talking points, briefing notes, and related communications materials to enhance consistency, quality, and efficiency.

Mission and Event Coordination:

  • Lead the coordination and logistical support for the VP’s mission events, ensuring that all elements, including briefings, materials, background information, and talking points, are requested, reviewed, organized, and executed seamlessly.
  • Manage high-level coordination with external counterparts, including Ministries and partner institutions, by following up directly with Ministers’ advisors, arranging alignment meetings, and ensuring substantive and logistical readiness for engagements.
  • Coordinate closely with the VP’s assistants to manage her travel and accommodation arrangements, ensuring all logistical aspects are handled smoothly.
  • Prepare post-event reports that summarize key outcomes, provide insights, and collaborate with relevant teams to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and identify follow-up actions as a result of mission trips, and define next steps.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree in public administration, business management, international development, or other fields relevant to the role's responsibilities.
  • Experience: At least 3 years (preferably 5 years) of relevant professional experience  in program or project management, strategy, management consulting, advisory or similar roles in the public, corporate, or international development sectors.
  • Languages: Proficiency in both spoken and written Spanish and English is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
