VPU Context 
The mission of the Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit (VPU) is to leverage information and technology as a force multiplier to accelerate, deepen, and sustain development impact. Unit Context 
The ITS Country Engagement unit (ITSCE) delivers digital support for global and country-specific products, supports systems aligned with the new Country Engagement model, and provides geospatial solutions for geo-tagging of projects to improve spatial visibility and impact tracking. It also drives the delivery of AI-powered business solutions to support business priorities and accelerate data-driven decision-making across the institution. 
ITSCE is looking for an experienced Senior Technical Lead to support the delivery of the unit’s capital work program on technology solutions tailored to Geospatial technologies to ensure technological support for operations.  
Specific Responsibilities 
• Lead the technical delivery of the following capital assets in the Geospatial Solutions product line: Enhanced spatial indicators in the Geospatial poverty portal, Digital Monitoring Reporting and Verification (dMRV) observatory for carbon markets.  

• Plan the technical delivery of the internal and external Geospatial platform modernization, pilot Digital Twins for WBG operations projects, and support strategic partnerships with IFIs to promote the reuse of Geospatial technologies. 

• Serve as the primary technical authority, make critical architectural decisions and guide the technical direction of projects and products. 

• Design and review system architecture, establish coding standards and best practices, and mentor junior and mid-level developers.  

• Evaluate new technologies, conduct technical risk assessments, and ensure code quality through reviews and technical oversight. 

• Break down complex technical requirements into actionable tasks, collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions, and lead technical discussions and decision-making processes.  

• Serve as the escalation point for challenging technical problems and provide guidance on performance optimization and scalability considerations. 

Selection Criteria

• Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other related disciplines with 8 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

• Demonstrate deep technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. 

• Substantial expertise in software development, comprehensive proficiency in various programming languages and frameworks, and a demonstrated track record in system design and architectural planning.   

• Proven exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI)—including understanding AI capabilities, responsible AI considerations, and opportunities to embed AI‑enabled features that strengthen user experience and operational efficiency. 

• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences of all technical levels, convey complex concepts clearly, engage senior stakeholders, and build consensus across diverse global audiences.

• Track record of leading technical teams including software engineers, solution architects, data engineers, and emerging technology specialists. 

• Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, and navigate ambiguity in fast‑moving operational and technological environments.

• High level of ownership, accountability, and organizational discipline, with a consistent record of meeting deadlines and delivering results in global multi-cultural environment.

• Proven ability to build strong partnerships, collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders, external partners, technical teams, and regional/country units. 

• Passion for innovation and continuous learning, with a commitment to staying current with emerging technologies, especially in AI, digital engagement tools, and cloud‑native platforms.

• Proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with business audiences across multicultural environments.
