Under article 4.2, paragraph (e) of the Staff Regulations, the filling of vacancies in technical cooperation projects does not fall under Annex I of the Staff Regulations and is made by direct selection by the Director-General.

Technical cooperation appointments are not expected to lead to a career in the ILO and they do not carry any expectation of renewal or conversion to any other type of appointment in the Organization. A one-year fixed-term contract will be given. Extensions of technical cooperation contracts are subject to various elements including the following: availability of funds, continuing need of the functions and satisfactory conduct and performance.

Introduction

The International Social Security Association (ISSA) is the world's leading international organization for social security institutions, government departments and agencies. Founded in 1927 under the auspices of the International Labour Organization, the ISSA counts more than 330 member organizations in over 160 countries.

The position is in the Member Services and Promotion (MSP) Branch of the International Social Security Association (ISSA). The MSP Branch is the area within ISSA responsible for communications, publications, member engagement and events. The ISSA will celebrate its centenary in 2027.

The position will report to the Director of MSP and will work closely with the Head of Communications and the Events Coordinator. The incumbent undertakes communication activities (primarily focused on the 100-year centenary of the ISSA) as well as administrative and technical logistic work on ISSA events, both virtual and in-presence. The incumbent may be called upon to work in task-oriented teams to contribute to ISSA activities within the area of competencies. 

Description of Duties

  1. Assist the Head of Communications in the development and execution of ISSA communication outputs in line with the 100-year centenary plans and other campaigns/activities.
  2. Contribute to the research, conception, planning and implementation of communication activities linked to the centenary, in liaison with external service providers (designers and consultants), as well as analysing and reporting on the results.
  3. Assist the planning, conception and production of news, web articles, social media and multi-media content around key ISSA activities.
  4. Support event logistics and communication activities: drafting a variety of different type of information, managing members and speakers’ correspondence, production of materials, in line with the ISSA style-guide.
  5. Update the ISSA Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) as required and use the CRM and other sources to produce short reports on ISSA events and communication activities.
  6. Format and proof-read reports, Good Practices and other documents in line with ISSA’s style-guide. 
  7. As appropriate to the position, may be called upon to perform a range of other relevant duties and operational support activities in collaboration with other work units of the ISSA on operational/administrative matters as required.

Required qualifications

Education

First level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in a relevant field such as communications, marketing or event management. A master’s degree in a relevant subject would be an advantage. 

Experience

One year of relevant experience in communications. 

Languages

Excellent command of English and very good knowledge of a second working language (French or Spanish). Working knowledge of either of the other two working languages (French/Spanish or German) of the ISSA would be an advantage.

Conditions of employment

  • Any appointment/extension of appointment is subject to ILO Staff Regulations and other relevant internal rules.
