The New Development Bank (“NDB” or “Bank”) is a multilateral development bank established to mobilize resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects. The Legal Department provides expert legal advice to senior management, governing bodies and Bank’s departments/divisions to ensure the Bank’s activities comply with its Articles of Agreement, policies, guidelines and all applicable internal rules.
The Professional, Legal (Institutional) is a key position within the Legal Department, responsible for providing dedicated legal support on the Bank’s institutional matters, internal administration, and corporate functions.
1. Role and Responsibilities
Under the guidance and direction of the Director General and Legal Counsel or their designee, the incumbent will:
- Provide Legal Advisory Support:Assist in delivering legal advice on the interpretation of the Bank’s Articles of Agreement, policies, guidelines, and all applicable internal rules. This includes support on matters related to privileges and immunities, human resources law, information technology agreements, corporate procurement, and administrative services.
- Conduct Legal Research and Analysis:Assist in staying abreast of the Bank’s internal rules and relevant external regulations to analyze legal issues associated with the Bank’s activities.
- Assist in Legal Dispute Resolution:Support the preparation of legal documentation and conduct research to aid in the defense of the Bank’s interests in administrative or judicial proceedings, as directed.
- Draft and Review Legal Documents:Conduct legal research and assist in preparing, drafting, and reviewing legal opinions, memoranda, agreements, and other legal instruments under supervision.
- Analyze Legal Cases and Issues:Assist in the analysis of cases and legal matters to support the Bank’s adherence to its internal rules.
- Other duties and responsibilities assigned as needed.
2. Position Requirements
- Education:A master’s degree or equivalent in Law from a reputed university.
- Experience:Minimum of 5 years of relevant post-qualification legal work experience. Prior experience within a multilateral development bank or an international organization is an advantage.
- Legal Qualification:Admission to practice law in at least one of the Bank’s member countries is required.
- Expertise:Knowledge of public international law, including institutional law and contract law. Experience in delivering legal research and analysis in a professional setting.
- Skills:
- Strong legal drafting and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Good problem-solving and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under guidance, meet deadlines, and collaborate in a multi-cultural team environment.
