About this position

The Strategy, Planning and Synergies Office (SPK) provides the backbone to articulate and deploy strategic priorities across the Group, including through developing and implementing the strategic direction provided by IDB Invest's basic strategic documents (eg, business plan, country strategies), and creating value by coordinating different parts of the organization: realizing synergies between business units, fostering the exchange of best practices or providing centralized shared services 

What you’ll do

Strategy formulation:

  • Participate in the preparation and approval process of IDBG strategy documents, highlighting the expected role of IDB Invest to foster the advancement of the prioritized strategic objectives and pillars at the country and sector level.
  • Support dialogue with high-level country stakeholders through the preparation of background material, and participation in outreach activities.
  • Draft analysis of historical IDB Invest’s operational information to inform future strategy, and lessons learned.

Private sector country diagnostics:

  • Contribute to the preparation of analytical work related to private sector development. This includes:
    • Economic analysis: Identify the contribution of the private sector to development outcomes at the economy level, such as jobs and economic output.
    • Sector analysis: identify business trends, map and evaluate operational models and experience of private sector involvement, challenges and bottlenecks for private sector participation, such as regulatory and institutional constraints and other market failures that impede the realization of business opportunities that promote sustainable growth.
  • Support multidisciplinary SPK teams by consolidating policy recommendations on development through the private sector.
  • Contribute to the preparation of Country Program Reviews, with the private sector perspective, conducting analyses of relevance, alignment and contribution of transactions to each Country Strategy.
  • Participate in the drafting and dissemination of country and sector-focused knowledge products.
  • Understand market stakeholders, including private sector actors, other private sector multilateral organizations and their regulatory bodies and follow market developments.

What you'll need

Education: An advanced degree (at least a Master's, MBA, or equivalent) in Economics, Business Administration, international development, public administration or related disciplines.

Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in applied economic or sector analytical work/ strategy development (infrastructure, corporates or financial markets).  Candidate must feel comfortable applying quantitative and qualitative approaches to economic and sector issues, as well as following real-time market development information to inform strategy. Knowledge of private-public sector issues, knowledge and/or experience working with private sector actors, development organizations or management consulting is relevant for this position, as well as knowledge of Latin America and the Caribbean economies.

Language Skills: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional    knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Citizenship: Must be eligible to work in job location(s) without the need for sponsorship. 

Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

 National consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months, if applicable).
