POSITION SUMMARY
  • General. Reporting to the project manager, the “COMMUNICATION ASSISTANT” position plays a critical role in the successful completion of the Lao PDR component of ASEAN-Korea Cooperation on Methane Mitigation (AKCMM).
  • Team composition. The Communication Assistant works closely with Five other staff members hired under AKCMM’s Lao PDR component – Methane Mitigation Policy Analyst (project manager), the Project Officer, Senior Associate, Senior Project Assistant – all under leadership of the Lao PDR GGGI Country Representative. These staff members will work as part of GGGI’s Lao PDR country team.
  • In addition to the Lao PDR country team, the Communication Assistant – together with his/her AKCMM project colleagues – will also receive guidance from the Asia Regional Office since AKCMM is a regional project being undertaken in ASEAN Member States. Staff members from the regional office will lead the delivery of AKCMM’s regional elements and share best practices of/lessons learned from other GGGI country teams.
  • Primary role. The Communications Assistant will primarily focus on creating visibility for the AKCMM project, and GGGI Lao PDR, and support knowledge production and sharing linked to climate mitigation and green growth. The Communications Assistant will contribute to the design and implementation of impactful audience-focused communication and knowledge-sharing initiatives, contribute to promoting ASEAN-Korean and GGGI’s brand and effectively communicating our impact stories both internally and externally through creative and innovative approaches. The Communications Assistant will report to the AKCMM project manager in Laos and the Knowledge Production and Communications Officer, who leads GGGI Lao PDR’s Communication and Knowledge Sharing Unit in GGGI Laos office.
  • Secondary roles. The Communications Assistant secondary responsibilities are as follows:
  • Support in developing communication and knowledge products in relation to regional activities, including managing the updates of AKCMM Laos website.
  • Undertake all tasks required to comply with communication rules of the GGGI Laos, GGGI HQ, AKCF, and the ASEAN Secretariat. 
PURPOSE
  • Assist in the development and implementation of audience-centric communication and knowledge sharing initiatives to enhance and promote the AKCMM project in close collaboration with regional communication team.
  • Support the development and enhancement of AKCMM project’s and GGGI Lao PDR’s social media, including contributing content to GGGI’s website.
  • Lead the design and implementation of communication plan and knowledge products of AKCMM project in Laos.
  • Update and maintain AKCMM website on a regular basis.
  • Assist in the design, development and execution of research and knowledge production strategies linked to ACKMM activities and assist the development of knowledge products arising from this work.
ENGAGEMENT
  • Support the communication needs of the AKCMM project and GGGI Lao PDR country program.
  • Engage AKCMM regional communication team and GGGI global communication and knowledge sharing team members to share, shape, and deliver effective and impactful communication and knowledge-sharing initiatives and amplify the impact stories.
  • Support engagement with media outlets to raise the visibility of the AKCMM project and GGGI Lao PDR.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to gather information and insights for communication purposes.
DELIVERY
  • Create compelling communication products, including written content (press releases, event write ups, impact stories etc.), visuals (infographics, videos, greeting cards etc.), and multimedia materials, to convey project achievements and impacts.
  • Support and design and delivery of knowledge production and sharing activities, including the undertaking of surveys, evaluations and other data collection, and development knowledge products.
  • Ensure consistent content updates on digital platforms including GGGI’s social media channels in Lao PDR.
  • Assist in covering events by taking photographs, recording interviews, and assisting with event visibility and communication strategies. 
  • Ensure alignment with organizational branding guidelines and messaging standards.
  • Support internal communication and knowledge management through SharePoint file maintenance the SharePoint updates.
  • Support the layout of PPT presentations and internal communication materials as per GGGI visual guidelines and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least an undergraduate (bachelor) degree in communications and journalism, or related fields such as design, architecture, publishing, humanities, literature.
  • Preferably at least one year of professional experience in communications, social media, media engagement or design
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and active usage of various social media platforms.
  • Good skill level with the Adobe Creative Cloud tools (especially Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Good experience in designing posts, publications, infographics, videos, communication materials, and others.
  • A keen interest and creativity in using innovative modern technologies to deliver messages.
  • Graphic design and photo editing skills
  • Should possess excellent and open team communication, and a high level of responsiveness to assignment and tasks
  • Excellent Lao language knowledge and good English writing and speaking skills are required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and have a flexible approach to tasks given.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Communication Assistant position is an X4 grade level in GGGI’s national salary scale. Determination of base salary is subject to candidate's experience, academic background and internal equity. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental and vision. This is a national position and does not include relocation benefits.

About GGGI Lao PDR. The Lao PDR office started operation in 2017 has grown into a 35+ team of international and nationals experts supporting the Government of Lao PDR with the implementation of a green growth agenda. The Lao PDR office implements a wide range of projects ranging from solid and liquid waste management, GCF Readiness, Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Landscapes initiatives like sustainable forestry, wetland, climate resilient agriculture and more. In Lao PDR GGGI is legally hosted by the Ministry of Finance but has extremely close relations with other Ministries like the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and with various sub-national entities, district and provincial Governments.

ASEAN-Korea Cooperation on Methane Mitigation (AKCMM). AKCMM is a 3-year, USD 20M regional project aimed at reducing methane emissions at scale in ASEAN Member States (AMS). The project seeks to achieve this objective through the following four interventions (i.e., outputs):

  • Output 1. Developing enabling policies and institutions
  • Output 2. Improving measurement of Methane Emissions
  • Output 3. Designing, financing, and implementing methane reduction sub-projects
  • Output 4. Promoting regional dialogue and partnership
