About this position
The IDB Group is looking for an active graduate student to be hired as an intern under the Consultant modality.
The 2026 Summer Internship Program is a competitive paid opportunity, based in Headquarters, for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.
What you’ll do
- Strengthen the data pipeline and GitHub workflows for CIMA’s educational indicators: Review and optimize existing R and Stata scripts used to process data from learning indicators (PISA, ERCE), physical resources (PISA, ERCE), and financial resources (UNESCO-UIS). Develop a reproducible, modular data pipeline within CIMA’s GitHub repository to ensure efficient data processing, automated updates, and systematic documentation. Automate the integration of new data waves, including validation checks and consistency tests, to minimize human error and enhance replicability. Document the structure, logic, and workflow of the repository—including file organization, variable construction, and indicator methodologies—in line with open science standards, ensuring transparency and long-term sustainability.
- Learning Assessments – Caribbean: Update CIMA’s indicators for Caribbean countries based on CSEC and CXC assessments: This will involve integrating the most recent data waves, generating new standardized indicators when needed, and ensuring comparability with existing CIMA methodologies. You will review data availability, assess gaps in coverage across countries, and develop reproducible R/Stata workflows for automated processing and documentation.
- Alternative Data Sources for Coverage and Efficiency – Caribbean: Conduct a technical review of alternative data sources for generating standardized indicators of coverage and efficiency beyond Labor Force Surveys (LFS) for Caribbean countries. This will include mapping available survey rounds, analyzing education modules and questions, identifying methodological limitations, and proposing new or complementary data sources. The goal is to improve the robustness and frequency of indicators for CIMA, ensuring cross-country comparability and consistency over time.
- Generate CIMA Briefs based on new data incorporated into the CIMA platform, with a particular emphasis on educational trajectories: This will include parameterizing analytical routines across different sources, developing reusable scripts, and supporting the production of policy-oriented briefs.
