Duties and Responsibilities

About UN-Habitat UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable and resilient towns and cities. It is the focal point agency for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat envisions well-planned, well-governed and efficient cities and towns, with adequate housing, infrastructure and universal access to employment and basic services such as water, energy, and sanitation. The Planning & Finance Section (PFS) is responsible to support urban and territorial planning at all scales including through the development of planning policy, norms and guidelines, urban design and public space design, urban finance (municipal finance and urban development/projects finance), and local economic development. Reporting and Communication The Consultant will be hired to collaborate closely with the team of PFS. He/she will be reporting to the Public Space and Urban Regeneration team Lead. Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the Public Space and Urban Regeneration team Lead, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties: •Provide technical expertise and input in urban design proposals and urban planning projects. •Develop analysis, collection, interpretation and representation of data and spatial analysis. •Produce desk and field research on topics related to urban planning projects. •Elaborate project proposals and support fundraising efforts related to urban planning and urban regeneration. •Advice and implement participatory processes in the scope of urban planning projects. •Advise and develop materials for events, outreach, communications, capacity building sessions and workshops. •Develop graphic materials and publications. •Draft progress reports regarding the implementation of projects, including documentation, knowledge management, advocacy and outreach. •Coordinate project implementation with partners, including follow-up implementation activities, supervision of output quality, and support for donor reporting. •Overall support to activities, including technical advice provided to the Public Space and Urban Regeneration team, as well as broader PFS and UN-Habitat initiatives.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualification: Advance university degree in geography, urban planning, landscape architecture, urban development, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree, combined with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. Work Experience: At least 5 years of relevant work experience in the field of urban and territorial planning is required. Relevant data analytic experience is required Work experience with an international organization is desirable

Languages

Fluency in English and Chinese is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
