Since 2017, IRC has supported Rohingya Refugees and Bangladeshi nationalities communities in Cox's Bazar, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong with integrated services. The organization also addresses climate change impacts by building resilience and promoting economic recovery, education and protection.

Purpose of the Role

The Staff Interpreter will provide language support services for applicants in the Assisted Passage Program. They will interpret oral statements between English and the target language during resettlement activities and translate documents as required. This role ensures clear communication between applicants, IRC staff, and partner agencies.

Work Location: Cox’s Bazar Office, with frequent travel to Ukhiya

Line Manager: Senior Case Processing Manager

Contract Length: 31st July 2026 (With possibilities of extension)

Highlights of Key Responsibilities:

Interpretation and Translation Services

  • Provide accurate interpretation during APP activities.

  • Translate documents between English and target languages.

  • Support the development of language resources for APP.

 

Program Support

  • Follow daily/weekly interpreter schedules as assigned.

  • Maintain records of interpretation and translation assignments.

  • Provide feedback to supervisors on language needs and challenges.

  • Uphold APP standards for interpreting and The IRC Way.

Training & Development

  • Participate in training sessions and refresher courses.

  • Support peer learning by sharing best practices with fellow interpreters.

Other Duties

  • Report trends in refugees and community concerns to supervisors.

  • Attend team meetings and training as required.

  • Comply with IRC’s Integrity and Compliance guidelines.

  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion and cohesion in IRC [team/office]

  • Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.

Work Experience  

  • Minimum two years’ experience as an interpreter or in Rohingya refugees’ programs.

  • Experience in translation is preferred.

  • Experience working with refugee resettlement preferred.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and email.

Language and Computer Skills 

  • Proficient in English (oral and written).

  • Fluency in Rohingya is advantageous.

  • Proficient in target language(s) (oral and written).

  • Ability to type in English and target language(s).

Working Environment
