JOB PURPOSE

We are currently seeking to fill internship positions under the HR Unit and Partnership, Reports & Communications unit. The positions will be based in Freetown. The Internship will be for a period of 8 months. The purpose of this job is to deliver standard business support processes for a specific professional area of work, to facilitate effective service delivery. In addition to the accountabilities for the position, the intern will primarily be responsible to coordinate, providing technical support to the indicated units.

Key Responsibilities:

HR Intern:

  • Assistance on general HR queries and follow up actions, to ensure consistent and high-quality HR services are delivered to clients.
  • Use HR management systems for entering and updating a variety of HR data including assistance in monitoring various deadlines (e.g. contract expiration etc.), ensuring compliance with the established deadlines and accuracy of HR data.
  • Extract and compile HR data on staff recruitment and selection, contractual conditions, entitlements, performance and training requirements, to support analysis and reporting needs.
  • Provide administrative support in various HR activities in the areas of work allocated by the supervisor including recruitment and on boarding of new staff members in compliance with relevant processes and procedures.
  • Maintain confidential personnel records, HR databases and archives, to ensure data and files are accurately stored and updated in compliance with the established standards

Partnership Intern: 

  • Support the Partnerships, Communications, and Reports (PRC) team in preparing presentations, briefing notes and other donor-facing materials to strengthen WFP’s engagement with partners.
  • Assist with organising donor visits, mission and events, including logistical arrangements and preparation of supporting documents.
  • Contribute to the development of advocacy and communication products such as fact sheets, short briefs and social media content that promote activities within the WFP’s Country Strategic Plan (CSP).
  • Conduct basic research on potential partners, funding opportunities and thematic areas, and compile relevant data to inform donor engagement and reporting.
  • Assist in drafting donor-facing products such as concept notes, summaries, and updates, ensuring information is clear and well-structured.
  • Help with editing and formatting reports for partners and internal use, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
  • Assist the PRC team with internal communications and staff training materials.

ELIGIBILITY

To be considered for an internship with WFP, applicants must meet one of the following requirements listed below:

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme (for example, bachelor’s degree) from a recognised university and have completed at least two years of the programme. Candidates should have attended classes in the past 12 months; (graduate in International Relations, Journalism, Communications, Business Management, or a related field.)
  • Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (for example, master's degree) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the past 12 months; (graduate in International Relations, Journalism, Communications, Business Management, or a related field.)
  • Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment in the university.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply:- sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters

 STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Recently graduated (within the past six months) with studies in International Relations, Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, Management, Human Resources, Economics and other related field of study.
  • Proficiency in Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in oral and written communication in English
  • Be fit to travel to, and work at, the duty station of the internship.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional team members
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Ability to be flexible, multi-task, prioritize, and manage multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong proficiency in using organizational systems, digital technologies, and AI tools
