POSITION TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT

REPORTING LINE: POST HOLDER REPORTS TO PARTNERSHIPS & COMMUNICATION OFFICER

ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT:

This position is based in the World Food Programme Liberia Country Office, within the Communications and Partnerships Unit. The incumbent will report directly to the Communications and Partnerships Officer.

The job holder is expected to support a range of communication and visibility activities that require interpretation of established guidelines, timely coordination, and consistent application of WFP branding and communication standards. The role also provides partnership‑related support when requested by the Communication and Partnerships Officer, particularly on donor visibility and reporting inputs.

JOB PURPOSE:

To perform general administrative and some specialized communications processes that support the creation of communications content and the delivery of communications services aimed at maintaining and enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation and supporting fundraising activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

Provide coordination, administrative, and specialized support in the development, preparation, and execution of communication and visibility campaigns for targeted audiences.

Monitor and coordinate the production of communication materials, including schedules, clearances, logistics, and field arrangements for missions, photo/video documentation, events, and other multimedia activities.

Conduct basic research, compile information, and prepare data inputs to support communication products, briefs, talking points, visibility reports, and decision‑making processes.

Monitor traditional and social media platforms and provide daily/weekly summaries to inform WFP Liberia’s communications priorities, identify opportunities, and flag reputational risks.

Draft and prepare content for social media, web features, newsletters, human‑interest stories, and printed materials, ensuring compliance with WFP’s branding and messaging guidelines.

When requested by the Partnerships Officer, support the gathering, consolidation, and organization of information for donor visibility, partnership briefs, success stories, newsletters, and external messaging products.

Coordinate with Programme teams and implementing partners when requested by the Communication and Partnerships Officer to collect donor reporting inputs, visibility materials, field photos, beneficiary stories, and activity updates, ensuring compliance with donor visibility and reporting requirements.

Manage and maintain records and databases, such as journalist and media outlet contact lists, photo/video archives, to ensure the information is accurate, organized and readily available for others to access.

Liaise with WFP staff and the media in a timely manner, to support aligned activities and an effective approach to communications within WFP

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:

  • Minimum of five years or relevant experience
  • Has demonstrated the ability to perform routine communication tasks and produce communication materials in line with WFP’s operating standards through day‑to‑day work.
  • Has experience supporting the drafting of communication products and contributing to basic reporting, such as inputs for donor reports, visibility updates, briefs, or field activity summaries.
  • Has assisted in providing ad‑hoc guidance or orientation to new staff members, interns, or colleagues working on communication‑related activities.

STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.

Language:

Fluency (level C) in English language is required
