The mental health context in Yemen is characterized by a critical shortage of qualified professionals and limited availability of services across the country. Access to specialized care remains extremely constrained, particularly within the public health system, where the number of psychiatrists, psychologists, and trained mental health personnel is insufficient to meet population needs. In response to these challenges, ADRA Yemen has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at strengthening Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services. Within the framework of the BMZ-funded project “Strengthening the Yemen Health System, Local Peacebuilding and Gender Equality in Abyan, Taiz and Lahj (SYHS+)”, Malteser International collaborates on the MHPSS capacity-building component. The intervention is designed to enhance the delivery of MHPSS services through targeted training provision and technical support to the local healthcare system, thereby contributing to improved service quality, accessibility, and sustainability.
