Organizational Context

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Asia Pacific Regional Office (APRO) supports National Societies to address the humanitarian impacts of migration and displacement across the region. The IFRC Regional Migration and Displacement Team provides technical and coordination support to the IFRC Secretariat and Asia Pacific National Societies in line with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s Migration Strategy.

The Global Migration Task Force (GMTF) is the Movement’s lead technical reference group, including together National Societies from all regions to advance coherent, principled, and collective action on migration. The GMTF Annual Meeting sets the strategic direction, strengthens Movement-wide collaboration, and facilitates cross-regional knowledge exchange and coordination.

To support the effective organisation and delivery of the GMTF Annual Meeting - to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in May 2026 - the IFRC APRO seeks a qualified and highly motivated intern for a six-month period.

Job Purpose

The Regional Migration and Displacement intern will join the IFRC Asia Pacific Migration and Displacement team to provide dedicated support to the planning, organising and documentation of the GMTF Annual Meeting, while also contributing to broader activities of the IFRC Asia Pacific Migration and Displacement team.

The internship is designed to offer hands-on experience in supporting regional humanitarian coordination and organisation of a global technical meeting on Migration.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

a)    Support to the Global Migration Task Force Annual Meeting
The intern will play a key role in supporting the organisation and delivery of the GMTF Annual Meeting, including:


•    Supporting the development and tracking of the overall meeting workplan and timeline
•    Assisting with logistical arrangements, including participant coordination, agendas, session planning, and meeting materials
•    Supporting liaison and coordination with GMTF members, IFRC, ICRC, and National Society focal points
•    Assisting with preparation of background documents, concept notes, briefing papers, and presentations
•    Supporting meeting documentation, including note-taking, synthesis of discussions, and drafting of meeting summaries and follow-up action points
•    Assisting with post-meeting follow-up, including dissemination of outputs and tracking of agreed actions

b)    Broader Migration and Displacement Team Support
In addition, the intern may support the IFRC Regional Migration & Displacement team in the following areas:


•    Regional analysis, mapping, and knowledge management related to migration and displacement
•    Compiling content for the quarterly Asia Pacific Migration & Displacement Newsletter, and drafting or editing reports, briefs, and presentations
•    Coordinating activities of the IFRC Asia Pacific Migration Network (APMN), e.g. webinars and online meetings, any events associated with World Refugee Day (20 June).
•    Contributing to internal team meetings, planning processes, and ad hoc tasks as required.

Education


IFRC internships are open to any current student, recent graduate, recent post-graduate or doctorate student.

Essential:
• Enrolment in or recent completion of a degree in social sciences, international relations, development studies, law or a related field, or demonstrable equivalent experience.

Experience

Desirable:
• Lived experience of migration and/or displacement
• Familiarity with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
• Experience supporting meetings, events, or coordination processes
• Additional languages relevant to the Asia Pacific region

Knowledge, Skills and Languages

• Strong organisational and coordination skills, with exemplary attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Demonstrable interest in migration, displacement, and humanitarian action.

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Location: IFRC Asia Pacific Regional Office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  • Expected start date: ASAP
  • Working hours: Full-time (subject to IFRC internship policy)

Reporting and Supervision

The intern will report to and be supervised by the IFRC Regional Migration and Displacement Lead within the Regional Health, Disasters, Crises and Climate (HDCC) Unit of the IFRC Asia Pacific Regional Office.

Remuneration

The Federation will provide the intern with a monthly allowance at CHF300.
