Background

UNDP Uzbekistan has been operating in the country since 1993, working in close partnership with the Government of Uzbekistan and national stakeholders to address key development priorities and support the country’s transition towards sustainable and inclusive development. Over the years, UNDP has built a strong track record in providing policy advice, capacity development, and programmatic support aligned with national strategies and international development commitments. UNDP assistance in Uzbekistan is guided by two interlinked strategic objectives: (i) supporting the Government in advancing economic, social, and democratic reforms aimed at improving the well-being of the population; and (ii) strengthening and promoting the meaningful participation of civil society, the private sector, and other stakeholders in development processes at both national and local levels. These objectives contribute to enhanced institutional effectiveness, improved service delivery, and inclusive decision-making.

UNDP’s programmatic interventions in Uzbekistan are structured around three core thematic areas: (i) inclusive and sustainable economic growth, with a focus on employment creation, private sector development, innovation, and social protection; (ii) inclusive and democratic governance, including public administration reform, rule of law, access to justice, anti-corruption, and citizen engagement; and (iii) climate change, environment, and resilience, addressing climate mitigation and adaptation, environmental protection, energy efficiency, and sustainable natural resource management.

UNDP implements its portfolio of projects across various regions of Uzbekistan, working closely with central and local government institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners to ensure context-specific, results-oriented, and sustainable interventions. Through its integrated approach, UNDP aims to support Uzbekistan in achieving its national development goals and the Sustainable Development Goals.
