Duties and Responsibilities

Working under supervision, the intern will contribute to the implementation of UNRWA’s Environmental Sustainability Policy and Climate Change Strategy through the following activities: • Support the development and use of corporate tools, templates and other materials for identifying, assessing, managing and reporting data on UNRWA’s primary environmental impacts, including energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, waste, water, sustainable procurement and resource efficiency, and pollution prevention; • Undertake guided research in support of UNRWA projects aimed at reducing the Agency’s own environmental impacts and/or improving the environmental sustainability of programmes; • Assist in knowledge management activities, including documenting environmental improvement actions, analysing associated environmental benefits, and contributing to staff campaigns and training materials that promote sustainable behaviours; • Contribute to the preparation of written inputs for in-house and external reporting obligations, as well as project proposals and concept notes related to environmental sustainability and climate action; • Prepare operational and coordination materials such as briefing notes, meeting records, presentations and background documents, including in support of meetings of the periodic Environmental Working Group; • Perform other related duties as required, under the direction of the assignment supervisor.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: • Be enrolled in an accredited first-level, higher education programme (Bachelor’s or equivalent); or • Be enrolled in an accredited graduate school programme (Master’s or higher or equivalent); or • Have graduated with a university degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or equivalent ), and if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. The major field of study should be in sustainability management, environmental engineering, natural resource management, business/public administration, international relations, or a related subject that demonstrates interest and knowledge in environmental sustainability in a corporate or organizational setting. Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, coursework or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Prior experience of relevant environmental activities, through paid employment, volunteering or academic work, will be highly regarded.

Languages

Fluency in English both orally and in writing is required, fluency in Arabic will be considered an advantage.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the UNRWA. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. A completed online application (Personal History Profile, PHP) is required. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. In your PHP, be sure to include all past work and academic experiences, and three references. In the statement of interest section of the PHP, please include: • Degree Programme (What are you currently studying?
