The International Trade Centre (ITC) assists developing and transition countries to take advantage of expanding trade opportunities in an increasingly complex global environment. ITC supports ‘Trade Impact for Good’, promoting sustainable and inclusive development goals through trade. The Information Technology & Systems (IT&S) section under the Division of Programme Support provides information technology solutions to the entire organization. One of such is the Green & Inclusive Value Chains (GIVC) section. There are several digital/online solutions and methodologies in this unit for strategic and operational research, assessing national trade performance, trade competitiveness and linkages between trade and development prospects, among which is the Trade for Sustainable Development (T4SD) programme.
Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the Chief IT&S, the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Officer and in close co-operation with business unit Head, T4SD and Chief, GIVC the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: • Participates in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of new web application systems releases, modules and functionalities. • Develops, tests and implements web application systems and programs using UN established standards for IT technologies, programming languages and tools. • Serves as team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of web application systems; independently liaises with users to define and specify requirements. • Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed web application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations. • Maintains functional specifications for web application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified. • Provides support for deployed web application systems including version management, data recovery and deployment to users’ offices; performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests. • Drafts correspondence and communications, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports. • Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of web application systems development projects, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests; prepares standard terms of reference; processes and follows-up on administrative actions and resolves issues related to project implementation, e.g. organization of and participation in training, procurement of equipment and services, etc. • Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions. • Provides guidance to new/junior staff. • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Experience
At least seven (7) years (5 years with a university degree) of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required. Experience in modern web applications design development is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in client-facing roles, with stakeholders from both public and private sectors is desirable. Experience with JavaScript programming language and patterns including modern backend and frontend frameworks like Angular, NodeJS, NestJS is desirable. Experience with NoSQL document databases is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience designing, developing and implementing web applications supporting or enabling environmental and/or social sustainability, preferably in multi-stakeholder settings is desirable. Experience with rapid prototyping and UI/UX design using modern, AI-backed tools like Figma, and their translation to modern web applications is desirable. Previous experience in the UN common system is desirable
