Duties and Responsibilities

This internship is based in the Knowledge Management Team of the Capacity Development and Operational Training Service, CDOTS, within the Department of Operational Support, DOS, at United Nations Headquarters in New York. DOS delivers end-to-end operational support and advisory services across the United Nations Secretariat. This includes departments, offices away from headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions. CDOTS provides operational training, language and communications training, training on enterprise resource planning systems, and knowledge management services. It also serves as the main facilitator of business process management activities across the Secretariat. The intern will work closely with CDOTS Communications, Outreach, and Digital Media lead, who manages the production of internal and external communication and multimedia products, including newsletters, articles for the UN intranet (iSeek), LinkedIn posts, among other initiatives. The intern will be responsible for the following tasks: Write, review, and edit articles for the UN intranet iSeek and for LinkedIn. Gather inputs from multiple stakeholders and draft newsletter content. Draft and review internal reports. Work with clients to develop video concepts and scripts. Summarize virtual discussion sessions and manage related communications. Draft run of show scripts and follow up emails for virtual discussions. Support data management on the UN Knowledge Gateway, the platform that hosts UN policies and guidance. Draft communication materials as required. Create graphic assets for promotional use when needed. Support content creation and resource building for the UN Languages website. Support the launch of events and relevant activities that promote programme offerings. Perform general office duties and additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the FINAL academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Be proficient in standard office software systems (e.g., MS Office 365 or similar). Preference will be given to applicants with experience in digital communications, editorial writing and visual content creation, as well as familiarity with graphic design software tools.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in French (UN Level II) is required. Fluency in English (UN Level II) is highly desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant (such as F1 or J1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa. The selected person will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and approved employment authorization (CPT/OPT/AT), allowing them to undertake the internship. Assessment: Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
