What we are looking for:
NRC is seeking an experienced media professional with a strong media nose and an extensive media network. We are looking for someone with excellent English and Norwegian writing skills at an editor level, who can hit the ground running and deliver on short deadlines. You will become part of a very competent and collaborative global media team – and also work extensively with policy, advocacy, media and communications colleagues across the organisation.
You will be responsible for managing and supporting our media work towards key markets, including Norway, Germany and Sweden, in addition to managing and supporting the media work in one of NRC’s regions. You will also initiate and develop media products, reach out to journalists, pick up the phone to pitch ideas and support content gathering in our country offices, especially during emergencies. You will also be expected to be able to provide the organisation and senior management with strategic media advice, including related to crisis communications.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in using their media and communications experience to advocate for the rights of people forced to flee.
What you will do:
You will lead and coordinate NRC’s media work in key fundraising markets (Norway, Sweden and Germany) with the aim to increase our media reach and support our brand building, fundraising and advocacy. This includes a technical line to colleagues with media responsibilities in these markets, providing trainings and advice. For Norway, this also includes the development and/or quality assurance of media products.
You will also lead and coordinate the media work in one of NRC’s regions with the aim to strengthen NRC’s media reach and support NRC’s public advocacy efforts. This also includes the execution of a technical line to people working with media at the country offices in the region, providing necessary trainings, advice and support, proactively identifying key media opportunities, pitching stories to media as well as developing and reviewing media products.
NRC works in some of the world’s most severe crises. We are looking for someone who can provide global support and strategic advice on crisis communication and take part in Crisis Management Teams as needed.
You will provide media and communications surge capacity and remote support for country offices, particularly in emergencies.
You will also contribute to the development and socialisation of strategies, guidelines, tools and procedures and related training material.
You will help build up new spokespeople, and act as a spokesperson yourself, including in Norwegian.
You will take part in NRC’s system for media and communications standby duty during evenings and weekends (approximately every 6th week).
As a good team player, you will of course step in and support the global media work in general, cover for colleagues when needed and provide advice and support, in the same way as colleagues will be there for you.
As a creative communications professional, you will also provide innovative ideas to how we can further strengthen our global media work, make use of new tools (including AI), carve out compelling messages, and access new media platforms and audiences.

What you will bring:
