About the job
The Child Protection (CP) Coordinator will provide technical leadership for the emergency Child Protection component, based in Juba, with regular field missions to support Mobile Response Teams (MRTs). The role focuses on strengthening the quality and consistency of CP case management, MHPSS, and coordination in line with CPiE standards. The CP Coordinator will ensure that interventions are technically sound, aligned with national CP AoR guidance, and responsive to emergency needs, particularly for high-risk children.
The position will provide technical oversight, supervision, support, systems strengthening, and capacity building to field teams while supporting coordination with relevant government authorities and Child Protection actors.
This position is part of DRC’s Mobile Response Team (MRT), which operates in hard-to-reach and underserved areas of South Sudan affected by conflict or natural disasters.. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
1. Technical Leadership and Quality Assurance (60%)
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to MRT teams on Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) interventions.
- Strengthen CP case management systems in line with CP AoR and inter-agency case management standards.
- Support the safe and ethical use of CPIMS (where feasible), ensuring data protection and confidentiality.
- Provide structured technical supervision guidance to case workers and Protection TLs to enhance case quality and documentation.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight on Best Interest Procedures (BIP) and support the integration of Monitoring and Reporting Mechanisms (MRM) for the six grave violations against children, ensuring field teams are aware of key standards and processes.
- Strengthen identification, documentation, referral, and follow-up of unaccompanied and separated children (UASC).
- Ensure age-appropriate MHPSS and awareness activities are aligned with PSS principles and responsive to children’s needs.
- Develop/adapt technical tools, SOPs, referral pathways, and guidance notes as needed.
2. Capacity Building and Systems Strengthening (20%)
- Oversee and ensure the effective delivery of technical trainings for Child Protection (CP) staff on case management, CPIMS, UASC procedures, and MHPS
- Support Team Leaders in establishing structured case supervision and quality review mechanisms.
- Identify capacity gaps and develop targeted technical improvement plans.
- Promote integration of CP across other protection components where relevant.
3. Coordination and Representation (15%)
- Represent the project in relevant CP coordination platforms in collaboration with the Protection Cluster.
- Strengthen coordination with relevant government authorities and line ministries on CP matters.
- Ensure alignment of project activities with national CP strategies and CP AoR guidance.
- Support information sharing and inter-agency referral systems at national and field levels.
4. Programme Support and Reporting (5%)
- Provide technical input for donor reporting on CP activities.
- Contribute to proposal development and technical narrative revisions if required.
- Ensure CP activities are evidence-based and aligned with monitoring data in collaboration with MEAL.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have a minimum of 5–7 years of professional experience in Child Protection, preferably in humanitarian/emergency contexts. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Rights, Law, or related field.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in CP case management and supervision systems.
- Experience with CPIMS/PRIMERO and safe data management practices.
- Strong knowledge of CPiE standards, UASC procedures, and inter-agency case management guidelines.
- Familiarity with Best Interest Procedures (BIP), including Best Interest Assessments (BIA) and Best Interest Determinations (BID), and experience participating in BID panels.
- Knowledge of international legal and policy frameworks related to the Six Grave Violations against children in situations of armed conflict, including Monitoring and Reporting Mechanisms (MRM).
- Experience supporting MHPSS activities within CP programming.
- Proven experience in capacity building and technical mentoring of frontline teams.
- Experience working in complex emergency settings; South Sudan experience is an asset.
- Strong coordination and representation skills.
- Excellent drafting and communication skills.
- Fluency in English
- Fluency in at least one or more local languages, including but not limited to Dinka, Nuer, Bari, Murle, Luo, Zande, and Arabic.

- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, caregivers, community leaders, government counterparts, and humanitarian actors from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, maintain productivity under pressure, and manage multiple priorities in fast-paced emergency contexts.
- Willingness and ability to undertake frequent and extended field missions to remote locations with limited services and infrastructure.
- Demonstrated adaptability, resilience, and a strong commitment to upholding child protection principles and safeguarding standards in crisis-affected settings.
