Background

The OSCE Presence in Albania is looking for qualified international candidates to carry out internships for 2–6-month periods in Democratization Department.

The Democratization Department of the OSCE Presence in Albania supports national institutions and civil society in strengthening democratic governance in line with OSCE commitments. Through its units working on elections, media development, parliamentary support, civil society engagement and gender equality, the Department implements projects focused on enhancing transparent electoral processes, promoting media freedom and professionalism, strengthening the oversight role of the Assembly, fostering civic participation and advancing gender mainstreaming.

The international intern will support the implementation of these activities by providing research, administrative, logistical and coordination assistance across the Department’s program portfolio.

Please note that:

- OSCE internships are full-time (40-hour week);

- OSCE internships will only be offered to nationals of the OSCE participating States/Partners for Co-operation. Applicants holding dual or multiple nationalities must be nationals of at least one OSCE participating State/Partner for Co-operation;

- The cumulative duration of internship at the OSCE is limited to 6 months for any individual. Once this duration of internship has been served, regardless of the OSCE duty station, further applications for internships from the same person shall not be considered.

Task and Responsibilities:

The selected international intern will have the opportunity to gain an overview/familiarize themselves with the work of OSCE Presence in Albania. Working under the overall supervision of the Head of Democratization Department and in close co-ordination with respective Project Managers within the Department, the intern will be requested to carry out the following duties:

1.Assist in the planning, implementation and follow-up of activities across the Department’s units, including support to projects related to electoral reform processes, media development initiatives, assembly strengthening, civil society capacity-building and gender mainstreaming activities.

2.Provide administrative support in organizing meetings, workshops, roundtables, public consultations and awareness-raising events; prepare logistical arrangements; draft agendas; compile participant lists; and support post-event reporting and documentation.

3.Conduct background research on topics related to democratic governance, electoral legislation, media freedom, assembly oversight, civic participation, and gender equality; prepare analytical summaries, briefing notes and presentations based on collected data and relevant statistics.

4.Assist in drafting correspondence, reports, concept notes, talking points and other written materials; support the preparation of periodic narrative and financial reports in line with project requirements.

5.Assist with the preparation of communication materials, including social media updates; support coordination with institutional partners, civil society organizations and other interlocutors.

6.Perform other related tasks as assigned in support of the Department’s work and ongoing projects.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • The selected candidate has to be 19 years old tomax 30 years old on the deadline of this vacancy;

  • The candidate should have completed two years of full-time studies from an accredited institution or have completed a first or advanced degree in a field relevant to the OSCE’s mandate no longer than two years ago by the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice;

  • Professional fluency in English with excellent communication skills. Knowledge of another OSCE working languages would be an asset;

  • Strong analytical, research and drafting skills;

  • Good organizational skills with ability to process and classify information quickly and efficiently;

  • Previous experience in working for international organizations/internships or in a diplomatic service, as well as knowledge of political issues would be an asset;

  • Excellent IT knowledge, familiarity with Microsoft Office and Internet applications;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity.

Remuneration Package:

Please note that, in line with other international and multilateral organizations, the OSCE does not provide remuneration to interns or reimbursement for their travel expenses for relocation to/from the duty station. However, in lieu of remuneration, the OSCE Presence shall contribute towards the cost of living of international interns who are non-residents at the duty station (place of assignment).

The internship lasts from 2 to 6 months and does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.

Should the selected intern not have already existing health insurance applicable to the duty station, he/she will participate in the group health insurance scheme at his/her own expense, but the OSCE will cover life and disability insurance.

If the intern opts to arrange his/her own medical coverage, he/she shall provide evidence of medical coverage for the duty station he/she applies to, and for any eventual duty trip destinations.
