About this position
The IDB is seeking to fill an Oversight, Audit and Compliance Specialist position to work in the Office of the Executive Auditor (AUG). In this role, you will lead audit and/or advisory engagements, guiding multidisciplinary teams through planning, execution, and reporting phases to ensure high-quality outcomes. You will also contribute as a key team member in complex, high-priority audits and cross-functional reviews, collaborating with colleagues across the Bank to address strategic risks, strengthen governance, and enhance internal controls. You will report directly or indirectly to the Executive Auditor, who reports to the President and to the Board through its Audit Committee.

What you’ll do
- Lead assurance and advisory engagements: set objectives, review and approve audit programs, and oversee all phases to keep work focused on areas with the greatest impact on business performance.
- Demonstrate leadership through effective communication and the ability to navigate difficult conversations.
- Operate independently, managing responsibilities and delivering results with minimal supervision while upholding the highest standards of quality and integrity.
- Evaluate technology-related risks and controls—including cybersecurity, data governance, privacy, cloud security, and IT general controls—and assess the adequacy of safeguards, incident response capabilities, and risk mitigation practices.
- Review and analyze end-to-end business processes to identify control gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for optimization, including the use of data-driven techniques and process mining where appropriate.
- Support the preparation and delivery of presentations to Senior Management and the Boards through the Audit Committees.
- Promote knowledge sharing and capability building across the AUG team.
- Coach and mentor AUG staff and consultants to strengthen both technical and human skills.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of innovative tools, methodologies, procedures, policies, and internal audit approaches.
- Build and maintain internal and external networks to exchange best practices and expand AUG’s knowledge base.
What you'll need
Education: Master’s degree in business administration, Finance, Management Information Systems, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree.
Experience:
- A minimum of four years experience delivering best-practice internal or external audit services within large, complex financial and/or development institutions.
- An advanced understanding of emerging and technology-related risks—such as cybersecurity, data governance, privacy, cloud security, and IT general controls—demonstrated through practical audit, advisory, risk management or first line experience in an information technology department is highly desirable.
- Experience evaluating and improving business processes will be considered an asset. Familiarity with process mining, workflow optimization, and data-driven approaches to assessing end-to-end processes is highly valued.
Language(s): Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

Type of contract and duration
Staff: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
