Project Background
The IRC is implementing the EU-funded ACCESS 2.0 initiative in Benghazi to strengthen primary healthcare services through the Essential Services Package (ESP), including outpatient care, maternal and child health, NCDs, communicable diseases, mental health, and enhanced pharmacy and supply chain management. As part of this effort, IRC seeks a Pharmacist Assistant to ensure safe dispensing, organized stock management, proper documentation, and preparation and distribution of medical supplies to support continuous, high-quality care in targeted facilities.
Scope of Work
- The Pharmacist Assistant will ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential medical and non‑medical supplies by maintaining proper pharmaceutical storage, transport, and stock organization using FEFO, while monitoring temperature, consumption trends, and overall inventory status. He/She will manage drug orders, receive and verify deliveries, and notify MTL of any anticipated shortages. Additionally, the Pharmacist Assistant will support quality service delivery by participating in routine inventory checks, monitoring antibiotic use, and adhering to all pharmacy safety and IPC standards.
Expected Outcomes/Deliverables:
- Ensure uninterrupted availability of essential medical and non‑medical supplies through proper stock organization, timely ordering, and adherence to FEFO.
- Maintain accurate weekly and monthly pharmaceutical consumption records and submit reports to the Medical Team Leader.
- Ensure correct storage, handling, and transportation of pharmaceuticals, including temperature monitoring and documentation.
- Receive, inspect, and verify all pharmaceutical supplies delivered from the warehouse, reporting discrepancies immediately.
- Participate in routine inventory checks and monitoring of antibiotic consumption as per established procedures.
- Adhere to pharmacy safety measures and IPC protocols at all times.
- Provide timely reports and updates to MTL.

Duration of the Work
The expected engagement duration for the Pharmacist Assistant will be three months, with a possibility of extending the service contract as per the project timeline/need.
The anticipated start date for the Pharmacist Assistant position will be March 1, 2026, with expected completion/end date May 31. 2026.
Key Working Relationships:
In addition to the relationship mentioned under the expected outcomes, the Pharmacist Assistant is expected to engage with the health manager/ Senior Health manager and the supply chain officer.
The Pharmacist Assistant will not be line managing any internal staff.
Duty station: This service contractor is required to provide the above-mentioned services in Benghazi, Libya.
Qualifications and requirements of a successful individual contractor:
- Bachelor’s in pharmacy with a valid practice license from the Libyan Ministry of Health.
- At least two years of experience as a pharmacist in hospital or PHC settings.
- Knowledge of Libyan pharmaceutical regulations and policies and the structure of the Libyan health system.
- Experience in storage and handling medical supplies.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel) and Excellent communication skills in Arabic and English
- Ability to undertake daily travel to various field sites as required.
- Capacity and flexibility to work under pressure and difficult conditions.
- Relevant experience working at NGOs with a similar role is an advantage.
