The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB/the Bank) is seeking to recruit an Intern, Economics.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Economics Department of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) comprises the Country Policy and Programming Division (CPPD) and the Research and Statistics Division (RSD).
CPPD is accountable for the formulation of country strategies to guide the Bank’s financial and Technical Assistance (TA) operations in Borrowing Member Countries (BMCs). It is also responsible for monitoring and analysing economic, social, and political developments in BMCs and relevant international sectors; conducting and producing macroeconomic and financial analyses; and training in economic management.
RSD is tasked with leading the Bank’s research agenda by driving thought leadership through commissioned and in-house research projects. Research coming out of the Department is meant to complement the activities of the Bank through investigating the development challenges and opportunities present in the Region and to present policy recommendations to help the region advance in its development aspirations. RSD also supports the collection, compilation, and analysis of data and statistics produced by National Statistics Offices (NSOs) of the Region. Through the centralization of such data and statistics, the RSD helps support the Bank’s results-management systems, and routine appraisal and supervision missions. Furthermore, the RSD collaborates and coordinates activities between CDB Departments and with external partners. The RSD collaborates with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Statistics Departments and provides analytical support and technical expertise in regional strategies and policies.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research: Conducting background research that investigates and analyses specific social or economic challenges (including but not limited to political, private sector, industrial sector or environmental issues) that are or have the potential to affect Caribbean development generally or affect specific Borrowing Member Countries. The background research should include an evidence-based assessment of potential priority areas for the Research Strategy.
- Administration: Supporting the co-ordination of meetings with internal and external stakeholders to discuss potential research priorities and preparing accurate meeting notes and summaries.
- Presentations: Preparing PowerPoint presentations, speaking notes and briefs as requested by the Deputy Director Research and Statistics (DD RSD).
REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
Reporting to the DD RSD or his designate from the RSD.
EDUCATION
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme in Economics or a related discipline, in an accredited tertiary level educational institution; or a recent graduate from at a minimum, a Bachelor’s programme (not more than 12 months).
COMPETENCIES

- Strong analytical aptitude and proven interest in research.
- Able to adapt to a multicultural environment, fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to work effectively in a team or independently.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office including: Word, Excel and Power Point. Knowledge of statistics and quantitative methods utilizing econometric software such as Stata, R, EViews and SPSS is highly desirable.
LOCATION, DURATION AND TIMING
The assignment will be based at CDB’s headquarters in St. Michael, Barbados over a 3-month period commencing on June 1, 2026 and ending on August 31, 2026.
